MLB Picks: Seattle Mariners at Minnesota Twins
Written June 5, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
The Twins are 27-28 overall and are coming off an 11-3 victory. While only being one game under .500, the Twins are struggling on the mound and with t he exception of Mauer and Morneau, they really don’t have any other consistent contributors. Jason Kubel has been solid and Michael Cuddyer is stable, but they have no run producers outside of the dynamic duo. Joe Mauer is baseballs best hitter right now. Since coming off an injury he has hit a jaw dropping .436 through his first 110 at bats. Former MVP Justin Morneau has been tremendous as well with 15 homers and 50 RBIs. On the mound tonight will be Francisco Liriano who has been an utter disaster for this team. His 2-7 record along with the 6.60 ERA he has posted is beyond anyone’s belief. In his two starts against the Mariners this year he is 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA. If Liriano is going to come out of this shell this year tonight would be a great time to do so. Mauer will look to jump on Felix early. Lead off man Denard Span will also play a crucial roll in tonight’s outcome. Tonight’s MLB odds show the Mariners -157 over the Twins with the total set for 8 runs.
The Seattle Mariners are 26-28 overall and currently are on a two game winning streak. Adrian Beltre has been stepping up his game of late while Ichiro continues his torrid tear. The surprise stud fort his team continues to be Russell Branyan who has put up 12 homers and 25 RBIs. This is a small ball team. They rely on base runners so they can get guys in motion and put on the hit and run. On the mound tonight for Seattle is Felix Hernandez who is 5-3 with a 3.41 ERA. Felix is a real enigma as he at times has been unhittable but has also been hit hard on occasion. His ERA has been much better on the road then at home and his record on day games is 2-0 as opposed to his night record which is 3-3 with a 4.26 ERA. Look for Minnesota to get some solid wood on the ball tonight as this is all set up for Liriano to break out. Felix has struggled of late against the Twins going 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA. Seattle is in for a tough night.
Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Twins are 22-7 in their last 29 Friday games. the Mariners are 8-1 in their last Friday games. However, Seattle does not follow success well as they are 3-11 in their last 14 games following a win. In the last 27 games between these two teams, the OVER is 20-6-1 overall.
