Mario Williams v. Reggie Bush

It was only in 2006 that the Houston Texans seemed to shock the sports world when they drafted Mario Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft instead of Reggie Bush. I, for one, was confused by the choice at the time, but Toro Times has done a good job of comparing Bush and Williams to see who got the better deal. During their rookie seasons I think almost everyone would have thought that the Texans got shafted and the New Orleans Saints got the gift of a lifetime, but in the past two years Williams has been a beast while Bush has struggled with injuries.

Williams has started in more games and the Texans have a fairly comparable record to the Saints, despite New Orleans having quite a bit more overall talent. Williams has been one of the top pass rushers in the game while Bush has not quite developed into one of the NFL’s elite running backs. Bush does have the edge with his one postseason appearance, but right now I have to agree with the Toro Times that they got the better end of the deal.

The Houston Texans are currently listed at +325 to win the AFC South (worst odds in the division) while the Saints are at +190 to win the South (the favorites to do so). More NFL odds show the Saints over/under win total is listed at 9, while Houston is at 8 and the odds to win the Super Bowl are listed with New Orleans at +2000 and the Texans at +3500.
