Mark Buehrle’s Perfect Game
Written July 24, 2009 by Jack Jones
It seems like everyone is talking about Mark Buehrle’s perfect game and since it’s only happened 17 other times in 388,364 games of Major League Baseball history it deservers a lot of attention. I think this guy deserves some more attention than he gets, especially after reading Yahoo’s ten reasons they are going nuts over the perfect game. If you look at his career numbers compared to guys like Josh Beckett and CC Sabathia you might be surprised at what you would see as he ranks right up there with both. Plus, this perfect game was against the defending American League champions and one of the best hitting teams in baseball, not the San Diego Padres like Jonathan Sanchez faced in his no-hit bid earlier this year.
How much momentum does this give the White Sox? I mean there is regaining first place in the division and there is regaining first place with a bang, and this was a shot heard around the world. The White Sox are still +130 to win the division while the Tigers are +125. So over at BetUS at least they don’t think this is going to be the catalyst to the postseason and at +1800 to win the American League the odds makers don’t see the World Series in the South Siders futures. If you disagree though then get your baseball betting action in at BetUS, where they give our readers a $500 bonus on a $500 initial deposit.
If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the game-saving grab made by Dewayne Wise. Babes Love Baseball is right that Buehrle owes this man more than a high-five. The Chicago Tribune also has a great (but lengthy) article on how Buehrle dealt with the pressure.
