The 2010-11 season of Maryland basketball was the end of an era, as head coach Gary Williams, a Maryland alum, retired from coaching at the end of the campaign. He had coached his alma mater for 22 years, winning 461 games (668 in 33 years overall) and leading the team to 17 consecutive postseason appearances and the 2002 NCAA title. He saw the postseason streak broken with a loss in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. He retires as the sixth-winningest coach in the Division I ranks among those active in 2010-11.

Key Losses
The Terps will have a number of holes to fill, as they lost four of their top-five scorers and three of their top-four rebounders.
Jordan Williams is at the top of this list. As a sophomore, Williams was the team’s leading scorer (17 ppg) and rebounder (12 pg), was named first-team All-ACC and a third-team All-American by a couple of media outlets. He shot 54 percent from the floor and recorded 45 blocked shots.
Senior Dino Gregory was the team’s No. 2 rebounder (6 pg) and No. 4 scorer (9 ppg) while recording 43 blocks to finish among the Maryland career top-15 in that category.
Senior Adrian Bowie finished in the Maryland career top-20 in steals while being fifth on the team in scoring (9 ppg) and tops in assists (3.6 pg).
Senior Cliff Tucker was third on the team in scoring (9.5 ppg) and the leader in 3-pointers made (41) and a leader in trey percentage among regulars (36 percent).

2011-12 Preview
How to replace a legend in Gary Williams? It wasn’t easy, but the Terps feel they found a winner in Mark Turgeon, who had success at Wichita State and Texas A&M. He inherits a team with some experience, but also has the challenge of incorporating a new system and philosophy while bringing along several new players who will be looked upon to contribute right away. The team is ranked in the nation’s top-15 in the preseason as three guards and three frontcourt regulars return from last year.
Backcourt
There is some experience back here, as the top three returners combined for 41 starts and averaged about 21 minutes per game between them. These three are the top three returning scorers and played the most combined minutes among returners.
Terrell Stoglin is the top returner in scoring (11.5 ppg) and assists (3.3 pg) while leading regulars in 3-point shooting (36 percent) and free-throw shooting (83 percent).
Sean Mosley is the top returning rebounder (3.8 pg) and the No. 2 returning scorer (8 ppg). He led the team in steals last year with 41 and leads all returners with 28 starts last year.
Pe’Shon Howard was one of three players to gather 100 or more assists last year. He is the No. 3 returning scorer (5.5 ppg).
Frontcourt
Relative to the backcourt, the frontcourt is relatively inexperienced and there likely will be some competition from newcomers for playing time here, as this trio played a combined 471 minutes last year.
James Padgett is the top returner in this group, playing in 31 of 33 games, averaging about 9 minutes, 3.5 points and about 2 rebounds per contest.
Behrend Weijs, from Amsterdam, was very productive in his 5 minutes per game over 23 contests, as he shot 59 percent from the floor and finished third on the team with 19 blocked shots.
Mychal Parker played about 80 minutes (5 pg) last year, but was active in carding 17 rebounds, 10 of which were offensive boards (59 percent).
