Maryland vs. North Carolina Football Betting Odds & Spread
Written November 12, 2008 by Jason Lowry

The Maryland Terrapins are no longer in the top 25, as they were upset on the road last week at Virginia Tech 23-13, but a win at home this week over No. 17 North Carolina will get them right back in the mix . We already mentioned that Maryland won last week, and the Tar Heels did the same, as they had no trouble with then No.22 Georgia Tech at home, as they took home the victory 28-7. This week the oddsmakers are going with the Tar Heels, as North Carolina is 3 point favorites over Maryland at Bookmaker.com
Normally the Tar Heels are gearing up for another big basketball season, but hopefully they don’t forget about there very good football team that has 3 games remaining, and a legit shot at winning the Coastal division and play in the ACC Conference Championship. Last week against the Yellow Jackets Cameron Sexton led the air attack completing just 7-16 passes for a 100 yards, but did have two big touchdowns passes. As for the running game Shaun Draughn did the majority of the work running it 17 times for 90 yards, but Ryan Houston stole the spotlight as he racked up 74 yards on 13 carries and had 2 of the Tar Heels 4 touchdowns. The Tar Heels want to run the football, and they have to think they will be able to, after Maryland gave up over 270 yards last week against Virginia Tech.
The Tar Heels defense continues to play good and really help this team win football games. Last week against the Yellow Jackets the Tar Heels gave up a bunch of yards, as the Yellow Jackets actually out gained the Tar Heels by over a 100 yards. But that doesn’t mean much if you can’t move the ball when it matters in the other teams territory, as they didn’t give up a touchdown till the 4th quarter. The defense really help its cause with 3 turnovers, as they recovered to fumbles and picked off one of Josh Nesbitts passes. Look for the Tar Heels to give Maryland plenty of problems this week on this side off the ball. Bet North Carolina -3 at Bookmaker.com
The Terrapins just couldn’t get much going on offense, as they scored just 3 points in the opening half, and just 10 in the second. The Terrapins lone touchdown came on a 63 yard pass from Chris Turner to Darrius Heyward. Turner was the only real bright spot for Maryland, as he completed 19 of 31 passes for 240 yards, but the Terrapins running game was no where to be found at all, as they had a -12 rushing yards on the day. Its simply embarrassing for a team to have a negative total in the rushing category, and if this team doesn’t find some way to turn that around this week they are really going to let the home crowd down.
Now the Terrapins will likely have more success in the running game, but it will be key for this defense to pick up their defense against the run, as we already mention how Virginia Tech ran at will on these guys last week. Its likely that just like most teams the Terrapins will add that extra energy from the home crowd, but this team has to play error free for 4 quarters against a solid Tar Heels team.
