Memphis v. Louisville Football Betting Odds & Predictions
Written October 9, 2008 by Jack Jones

It’s a return of a rivalry on Friday night as the Louisville Cardinals take on the Memphis Tigers at the Liberty Bowl. These two teams used to both be in Conference USA before Louisville took off for the Big East. The Cardinals are coming into this game off a loss to UConn back on September 26th, while Memphis is riding high after winning three straight to bring their record to 3-3. This will be Louisville’s first road game, but the odds makers still see the Cardinals as the 6.5 point favorites with a total set at 55.5.
Louisville has moved the ball with a balance of the run and the pass. They are averaging 213 yards on the ground and 222.5 yards through the air per game, scoring 28 points per contest. Turnovers have cost the Cardinals though with 10 already in four games. Against UConn Louisville had 508 total yards but the three turnovers is what cost them the game. Hunter Cantwell was picked of with under three minutes to go, and that interception was returned for the game-winning touchdown. Cantwell hasn’t had a lot of success so far this year, and will be battling an ankle injury if he can even go in this one. He has completed just 58% of his passes with five picks and five touchdowns. Doug Beaumont has been his favorite receiver with 29 receptions for 385 yards, while Victor Anderson leads the ground game with 421 yards and five touchdowns.
The Cardinals defense has been good so far this year in holding opponents to just 252 yards per game. Rushing attacks have been limited to 70.8 yards while passers have thrown for just 181.2 yards. The team has generated nine turnovers to help compensate for the troubles the offense has had keeping the ball. Memphis hasn’t had a problem scoring on anyone thus far, putting up 28 points per game on 462.7 yards of total offense. The ground game is averaging 190.5 yards while the passing game throws in 272.2 yards. Last week they had 436 total yards to win a close one against UAB on a last-second field goal. Quarterback Arkelon Hall had 209 yards and four touchdowns, continuing his hot start in which he has 1,456 yards and eight touchdowns. Carlos Singleton is the main receiving threat with 33 receptions and 522 yards, including his five catches for 123 yards and a touchdown against UAB. The ground game is in good hand with tailback Curtis Steele. He had 14 totes for 101 yards last week to bring his total to 578 yards, 6.4 per carry.
Memphis has had trouble stopping teams, but they have generated turnovers to help make up for it and have gotten to the quarterback 14 times. The Tigers though are giving up 373.7 total ypg, 170.5 ypg of which has come on the ground. The ground game has also given up 12 of their 17 touchdowns to opposing rushers. Last week against the Blazers Memphis allowed 220 yards on the ground and another 235 through the air. If you like the Tigers, you can get Memphis +6.5 at Bookmaker and get a 20% cash bonus!
