2011 Miami Dolphins Schedule

Written by

The Miami Dolphins came into the 2010-11 NFL season with high expectations after trading for wide out Brandon Marshall, but they wound up going just 7-9 for a third place finish in the tough AFC West. The Dolphins biggest problem was their inability to win at home. Miami ended the year just 1-7 on their home turf.  While you have to expect Miami to be much better at home this season, it’s hard to see this team competing for a division title with the likes of the New England Patriots and New York Jets sitting in their way.

To get a better idea of what the Dolphins will look like next season, let’s take a look at their 2011-12 schedule. Outside of their six division games against the Patriots, Jets, and Buffalo Bills, Miami will face the AFC West, NFC East, Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans.

Miami went just 2-4 against their division rivals last year. They got blown out in both games against the Patriots, while splitting their two games against both the Jets and Bills. While both of their wins came on the road, the Dolphins have to do a better job against their division this season if they want any chance of making the playoffs.

Looking at the Dolphins four games against the AFC West, they get the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders at home, while having to go on the road to take on the San Diego Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs. The Dolphins should come in favored against both the Raiders and Broncos, but with the way this team struggled at home last year nothing is a lock. Miami will likely be underdogs in both games against the Chiefs and Chargers, which likely has them going 2-2 at best against this division.

It won’t get any easier in the Dolphins four games against the NFC East. Miami has to go on the road to take on the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys, while getting the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins at home.  Not one of these games will be easy, as all four teams should be even better than they were a year ago. If Miami can go find a way to split these four games it would be considered a success.

There doesn’t appear to be an easy win in the Dolphins two conference games against the Browns and Texans. Miami will host Houston in week 2 and then go on the road the following week to play the Browns. We will learn a lot about this team in these two games. If they can find a way to get two wins here it will not only get them off to a strong start, but it could give this team the confidence needed to keep it rolling all season. With the Patriots on the schedule in week 1, two losses would likely put this team in a big hole early at 0-3.
