Miami vs. Georgia Tech Football Betting Odds & Spread
Written November 18, 2008 by Jason Lowry

The Miami Hurricanes (7-3) kept their hopes of playing in a BCS game this season, with a 16-14 win over Virginia Tech at home last Thursday night, and they will have to do the same this Thursday when they travel to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (7-3). Last week the Yellow Jackets took on the higher ranked North Carolina Tar Heels at home, and got their butts kicked 28-7, but the season isn’t over for the Yellow Jackets as a win this week over Miami would put them at worst in a 5 team tie for first place in the Coastal division of the ACC, so its easy to see the importance of this one. For those of you looking to bet on NCAA football this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Yellow Jackets 3 point favorites at home over the Hurricanes at Bookmaker.com
After starting the season just 3-4 and losers of back to back games against North Carolina and Florida State, the Hurricanes have responded by winning 5 straight and have their future in their own hands. Last week against Virginia Tech it wasn’t easy, but the Hurricanes never trailed in the game. The only offensive touchdown came from Jarvarris James on a 3 yard run to put the Hurricanes up early in the first quarter, as Matt Bosher added 3 field goals throughout the rest of the game. The Hurricanes didn’t have a ton of yards in this defensive battle, as Marve had just 121 yards passing, and the leading rusher was Graig Cooper with just 52 yards. This week they face a Yellow Jacket defense that has really struggled in their last 3 games giving up over 26 points a game.
The Hurricanes defense has really turned it on of late, and the performance they put on last week could of very easily propelled this team into a BCS bowl game this season. They simple kept the Hokies in check for all 4 quarters, as the Hokies scored all their points off of touchdown runs by Tyrod Taylor, but they only gave up 77 yards on the ground the entire game. If the defense can bring this same kind of performance to the road this week, the Hurricanes will have a great shot at bringing home their 6th straight win. Bet Miami +3 at Bookmaker.com
The Yellow Jackets are hoping the Hurricanes play like they did last week on the road, as the Yellow Jackets got embarrassed at North Carolina last week. By the time the Yellow Jackets scored a point it was already 21-0 with just a little over 6 minutes left in the game. Now it wasn’t that this team couldn’t move the football, as they had 326 rushing yards, its they just couldn’t make the plays when it mattered. It didn’t help they missed two field goals in this one, but if you rush like that, you better find a way to score more than 7 points. We are a little worried about what this team is going to do when they can’t run the football, and we will likely find out when they face a good Miami defense this week.
Now the Georgia Tech defense did everything it could to keep this team in the game, as they held the Tar Heels to just 7 points through 3 quarters, but fell apart in the 4th giving up 21. The Yellow Jacket defense didn’t have much going against the run either, as they let the Tar Heels rack up 186 yards and 2 scores on the run. The Tar Heels also threw it well, as Cameron Sexton had 2 throwing scores in this one. The defense has to be able to respond when the offense needs help for a full 4 quarters, cause they are likely going to have a very similar like start to the game this week against the Hurricanes.
