Minnesota at Ohio State Football Betting Lines

Written October 21, 2009 by Kyle Hunter

Just when it seemed like things were coming together for the Buckeyes, they lost a shocker at Purdue last weekend. Minnesota was hoping to try to prove they are for real, but they failed to score a point at Happy Valley last weekend. Both teams will come into this game looking to prove a point, so expect to see a much better performance from both teams than you saw just last weekend.

Talk radio is buzzing in Columbus and the heat is on Terrelle Pryor. Pryor was an extremely highly touted prospect that was supposed to push the Buckeyes over the top, but he has played very poorly so far this season. It seems thus far that he has regressed from last year, which is a huge concern for Ohio State. Pryor is making far too many mistakes. In fact, last weekend alone Pryor made 4 turnovers, 2 fumbles and 2 interceptions in their 26-18 loss at Purdue. The offense just cannot seem to get their act together, despite the fact that they have quite a bit of talent. Brandon Saine has emerged as a pretty solid running back for the Buckeyes, but they have had no passing game at all so defenses have keyed in on the run. On the other side of the ball the Buckeyes defense is very good. The defense had a bit of an off game against Purdue, but they were far from the reason the team lost the game. The Buckeyes are giving up just 14 points per game and have been great at forcing turnovers.  Get a $500 match bonus from BetUS that you can use to bet on college football!

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are a much improved football team. Remember a couple years ago when they were bottom feeders in the Big 10? This is not the same team at all. The goal now is different though; the Gophers want to get out of the middle of the Big 10 and step up and beat the elite teams. A win at Columbus would go a long way toward proving that. The Golden Gophers are transitioning from a spread offense to a pro style offense and have done their best to establish a successful running game this season. Adam Weber is a very talented quarterback, but he has been bitten by the interception bug this year. Weber has already thrown 9 interceptions compared to just 6 touchdowns. Eric Decker is a great wide receiver who can change the game single-handedly if he touches the ball very often. The Minnesota defense is still a work in progress, but they have improved from a year ago. The Golden Gophers need to improve against the run, where they give up 165 yards per game.

The latest NCAA football lines show that the Buckeyes are 17.5 point favorites in the Horseshoe this weekend. The posted total is set at 43.5 for the game. The Buckeyes are 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 home games, but the Gophers are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 road games.

The Buckeyes should be able to establish a running game against the poor rush defense of the Gophers. The Buckeyes will probably be looking to prove they are much better than last weekend’s pathetic effort at West Lafayette. Expect the Buckeyes to win this one fairly convincingly, backed mainly by a great defensive effort.
