Mississippi State at Georgia Tech Picks & Predictions
Written September 18, 2008 by Jason Lowry
The ACC and SEC do battle this weekend when the Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-2) will try and test their luck on the road when they take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (2-1) this weekend. The Bulldogs started the season off on the wrong foot losing Louisiana Tech in week 1, and the start to their SEC season didn’t go so well either. The Bulldogs wound up losing 3-2 in defensive showdown against highly rated Auburn. The Yellow Jackets started off the season perfect at 2-0, and looked to keep it rolling when it took on the Hokies of Virginia Tech last week, but wound up losing a close one 20-17. Home field is always an advantage, and thats likely a good reason the odds for this game at JustBet.com has the Yellow Jackets as 8 point favorites over the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs offense was absolutely unable to get anything going last week against the Tigers defense, as they didn’t put a single point on the board. The Bulldogs barely got over a 100 total yards, as they were only able to run for 38, while passing for 78. Though the defense is tough and will likely play well enough to win week in and week out, the offense has to be able to do something. Playing on the road is likely not going to help this unit, it will be up to running back Anthony Dixon and quarterback Wesley Carroll to pick up their game and get this team in the redzone for some scoring opportunities.
The Bulldogs defense has been lights out for the most part this season, as they have really shutdown opposing offenses. They are currently allowing just 96 yards a game and less than 3 yards a carry, which really makes it hard for teams to move the football on them. The pass defense is no slouch either, as they allow just 148 yards a game. The defense will have to rise to the occasion this week, and possibly help the offense out by putting some points on the board via turnovers. Bet Bulldogs +8 at JustBet.com
The Yellow Jackets did all they could against Virginia Tech last week, as they played them tough down to the wire. The offense really relies a lot on the run, and that is pretty easy to see when they have only thrown the ball 37 times this season. The thing is you don’t have to throw the football, when you can run for an average of 263 yards a game. The leading rusher this season just so happens to be quarterback Josh Nesbitt, and close behind him is running back Jonathan Dwyer. It will be an interesting battle of strength vs. strength this weekend when the Yellow Jackets run offense, tries to go up against the Bulldogs stellar run defense.
The Yellow Jackets defense has been pretty sharp so far holding every opponent under 20 points. So far the opposing teams have only averaged 255 yards a game, and they have really shut down the passing game intercepting 4 passes and allowing just 6.7 yards a toss. The defense gets a pretty easy task this weekend facing the Bulldogs offense that really can’t do much of anything. Bet Yellow Jackets at JustBet.com
