Mississippi at Tulane Odds

The Mississippi Rebels are set to take on the Tulane Green Wave this Saturday. The Rebels were stunned in their season opener against Jacksonville State 49-48 at home. Tulane was able to come home with a victory in their first game, as they beat Southeastern Louisiana 27-21. Looking at the odds for the game this weekend, the Rebels come in 20.5-point favorites over Green Wave.
The Rebels had a 31-13 lead going into the fourth quarter of play, but things went all downhill after that. The Rebels were outscored 21-3 in the fourth quarter, before eventually losing the game in double-overtime.
The Rebels got a strong showing out of sophomore quarterback Nathan Stanley, as he completed 6 of 10 passes for 133 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Rebels also got former Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli into the game, and it will be interesting to see if he comes out and starts this week.
Tulane didn’t exactly blowout its opponent in week 1, as the Green Wave were actually outgained by 14 yards. Ryan Griffin had just 129 yards passing and an interception in the win. The star for the Green wave was freshman running back Orleans Darkwa, who carried the ball 19 times for 75 yards and three touchdowns. Junior Albert Williams was also a factor, as he ran for 57 yards on 14 carries.
The Green Wave were strong against the run last week against Southeastern Louisiana, as they allowed just 64 yards on 28 rushing attempts. The problem came in the secondary, where the Green Wave allowed 202 passing yards, including three touchdown passes of 20-plus yards.
Looking at the Odds: Saturday’s game marks the 70th time these two teams have faced off. Mississippi has won nine straight, but the last game was in 2000. The Rebels have had a lot of success lately playing at Tulane, as the Rebels have won the last four games in New Orleans by an average of 20-points.
Even though the Rebels stunk it up at the end against Jacksonville State last week, I think you have to take them to cover the large spread in this one. I think the players now understand what it takes to finish games, and I look for them to come out and put a beating on the Green Wave. My final score prediction is Mississippi 45, Tulane 21.
Got something to say?
