The 15th-ranked Missouri Tigers visit the 13th-ranked Texas A&M Saturday in a huge Big 12 conference showdown. The tip is set for 1:00 EST and will be nationally televised on ESPN 2. The Tigers are off to a 15-2 start this season and 1-1 in conference action, while the Aggies are a surprising 15-1 and 2-0 in Big 12 play. The odds for this contest show us a line of Texas A&M -4.5 over Missouri. Look below to find some key information you can use when deciding on which team to wager on.
The Tigers dropped their first Big 12 road game by a final of 89-76 at Colorado in an upset loss on January 8. They struggled shooting in that contest at 40.6 percent, and weren’t much better in their 77-69 home win over Nebraska earlier this week as they shot 42.4 percent from the floor. Macrus Denmon almost single-handedly won that game with the Cornhuskers, scoring a career high-tying 27 points. Denmon leads the Tigers in scoring this season at 17.6 points per game.
Both of Missouri’s losses this season have come on the road, and they will be looking to end a 4-game losing streak at Reed Arena this weekend. The Aggies rarely lose at home, as they are currently riding a 12-game home winning streak and have been victorious in 28 of their last 29 here. Head coach Mark Turgeon is proving he is one of the most underrated coaches in college basketball. Their 15-1 start matches Texas A&M’s second-best start in school history, a feat also accomplished in Turgeon in 2007-08.
Texas A&M comes into this game on a 12-game winning streak, its longest since a 25-game run from 1919-21. They have won both Big 12 games this season by a combined 41 points. Defense has been the biggest culprit, as the Aggies allowed just 19 second half points in a 71-48 victory over Oklahoma State this past Wednesday. For the season, Texas A&M yields just 55.7 points and 37.7 percent shooting which are both among the best in the country.
This could be the Aggies toughest test yet defensively, as the Tigers run a fast-paced style and produce 85.2 points per game. David Loubeau scored 17 points to lead the Aggies to a 77-74 win at Missouri last season. Kris Middleton also chipped in 16 points off the bench, and has come back to lead the Aggies in scoring at 15.0 points per game this year.
Texas A&M has won four straight home meetings with the Tigers and six straight overall, including their 96-86 win in their most recent meeting at Reed Arena in March of 2009. The Aggies have averaged 93.7 points per game in their last three home contests in this series. Missouri owns the all-time edge at 11-8 which was helped by a six-game winning streak over the Aggies from 1998-2002. Texas A&M will be aiming for the longest winning streak in this series as they go for a 7th straight Saturday.
