Missouri at Texas Football Betting Odds & Spread
Written October 14, 2008 by Jason Lowry

What a big turn of events last weekend in the NCAA, as the two top dogs of Oklahoma and Missouri were upset. The Texas Longhorns handed the Sooners their first loss of the season, and are now the No. 1 ranked team in the country. Missouri on the other hand finally stalled on offense and fell to Oklahoma State at home. This weekend the now No. 11 ranked Tigers will get a chance to get back on track when they take on the Longhorns. After the big win last weekend there is no surprise that the oddsmakers have the Longhorns 6.5 point favorites over the Tigers at Sportsbook.com
What a surprise it was to see the Tigers offense really held in check last week, as quarterback Chase Daniels threw 3 interceptions that really hurt this teams chances of pulling of the win. Daniels did throw for 390 yards and a score, but its hard to win a game turning the ball over. Jeremy Maclin and Chase Coffman both had big games receiving with over a 100 yards, but neither were able to find the endzone. If the Tigers plan on sticking around with the Longhorns offense this weekend, they have to keep the turnovers down, and find away to get the ball in the endzone more than just 3 times.

Though the Tigers defense played pretty well last week holding the Cowboys to just 28 points, and giving its offense a chance to win even with all the turnovers. Many had to expect that the Cowboys would get their yards, and if the defense kept them under 30, this one would be an easy win for the Tigers. This weekend it gets even harder for this defense, as they are going to be forced to keep a Texas offense that is putting up some pretty crazy numbers on offense this season. If the Tigers are going to bounce back, they need this unit to create some turnovers or hope the offense has enough to go score for score. Bet Missouri +6.5 at Sportsbook.com
What a performance the Longhorns put on offense last weekend against what looked like a really good Sooners defense. After being held in check for just 3 points in the 3rd quarter, the offense went on a tear scoring 42 points in the final 3 quarters. Quarterback Colt McCoy might have only thrown for 1 touchdown, but he looked great throwing for 277 yards on 28/35 passing. Where the Sooners really got it going was on the ground, where they pounded the Sooners for over 150 yards, including 127 yards from Chris Ogbonnaya. Though Cody Johnson ran the ball just 3 times for 4 yards, it was one heck of a day, as all 3 runs game for scores, including the two big touchdowns in the 4th quarter. Look for this offense to have no problem moving the ball on a Missouri defense that just don’t have that kind of talent to hold this team in check.
The Longhorns defense might have been the real story, as they kept a Sooner offense that has been scoring nearly 50 every week to just 35 points, and just 14 points in the 2nd half. Though they did allow Sam Bradford to throw for 387 yards and 5 scores, they completely shutdown the Sooners running game allowing just 37 on the ground. The Longhorns defense also had two big interceptions. The question we have for the game this weekend, is will this defense be able to play with the same kind of intensity in back to back weeks, as Missouri is just as good as the Sooners on the offensive side of things.
