Morehead State vs Louisville Preview

morehead-state-louisville-ncaa-tournament-odds-032009The Louisville Cardinals are the Big East regular season and conference tournament champions. The most dominant conference from start to finish was the Big East. For the Cardinals to win both regular and post season events is an amazing accomplishment. However, that’s just a start for them in their eyes. The #1 overall seed has premier talent everywhere you look. They are well balanced, coached to perfection and have the best athlete’s in the land. They are led by their All-American stud Terrence Williams who averages 12 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5 assists per game. In addition to T-Will, they have future NBA fist round pick Earl Clark who collects 14 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Their defensive specialist is guard Andre McGee and they have their fabulous freshman big man Samardo Samuels. One of Louisville’s unlimited strengths is their depth. Preston Knowles, Edgar Sosa and Terrence Jennings are all key pieces to this team. The Cardinals average 74 points per game and only give up 62 against. The Cards have beaten the best competition in the land and will be way to much for Morehead State to handle. The key component in this game for Rick Pitino will be to make sure his players do not get banged up and to drink some coffee before the game so he doesn’t fall asleep on the bench.  Louisville is favored by 21.5 points over the #16 seed Morehead State.

The Morehead State Eagles are the champions of the Ohio Valley conference and the winners of the play in game Tuesday night against Alabama State. Morehead State now gets the pleasure of facing the #1 overall seed in Louisville. The leader of the last team into the tourney is F/C Kenneth Faried who averages 15 points and 13 rebounds a game. He is a big time talent that does have the ability to neutralize Samardo Samuels of Louisville. The only way that Morehead State has any chance to be competitive is if their leading scorer, forward Leon Buchanan can get the better of Terrence Williams. Buchanan averages 15 points and 6 rebounds per game. Their best out of conference win all year was @UCF. UNC and Uconn were the #1 seeds who played yesterday and both covered with tremendous ease. If Morehead State doesn’t play strong and physical, Louisville will do the same. I do believe that Morehead State will have the best chance out of any 16 seed to cover and play relatively well due to the fact they had two above average players.

Haimo’s Hot Notes: Morehead State faced Louisville back on 11-22-08, they lost 71-49. they were only down 9 at half but fell apart in the second. If Faried and Buchanan play well, I expect Morehead State to play well and cover. If Faried is a no show and/or Buchanan is housed by Williams this will be a 30-40 point loss. This game is to iffy for my blood. For everybody taking Louisville, realize 21.5 points is plenty. Anybody who has jumped on Morehead State with the points I hope you realize The Eagles have two players, if they do not play well they will not sniff a cover. Trends to chew on, Louisville are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games on a Friday and Morehead State are 2-7 ATS in their last nine games on a Friday.

Louisville is 21-12 ATS this year

Morehead State is 19-12 ATS this year

Betting Line: Louisville -21.5

To risky to select, if i were to though, I would take the 21.5 points with Morehead State.
