NBA Picks: Denver Nuggets at Detroit Pistons

Written by -

The Detroit Pistons will look to continue their home-court dominance over the Denver Nuggets when the two teams face off at the Palace of Auburn Hills Wednesday Night. The Pistons have won 15 straight at home over the Nuggets on their home floor.

Denver comes in off a 120-109 win at Washington Tuesday night, snapping a three-game road losing streak. The Nuggets are 6-2 in their last eight games.

The Pistons also come in playing some pretty good basketball. Detroit held on for a 75-74 win at home against the Suns on Saturday, and then followed that up with a 103-96 win at Orlando on Monday. The Pistons are 5-2 in thier last seven.

Taking a look at the NBA spreads for tonight’s game, oddsmakers have the Nuggets favored by 3-points over the Pistons with the total set at 203.5.

It’s a little surprising to see the Nuggets favored at Detroit, considering they haven’t beat the Pistons on the road since 1995, but you definitely can’t count out the Nuggets in any game.

In the win over the Wizards last night, Carmelo Anthony scored a team-high 23 points, while Nene and Al Harrington had 21 points a piece. Denver had six different players score in double figures, and with Harrington’s 21 off the bench and Ty Lawson’s 17, the Nuggets bench outscored the Wizards 39-29.

J.R. Smith showed up late to the team shoot around on Tuesday and was benched by head coach George Karl. It’s unclear whether or not Smith will play tonight, but with the way the Nuggets looked last night, they might not need him.

Keep an eye on Chauncey Billups in this one, despite the Nuggets losing their last four trips at Detroit with him in the lineup, he has averaged 27.5 points against his former team.

The Pistons recent success has came along with the decision to move Tracy McGrady into the starting lineup at point guard. McGrady is averaging just 9.2 points and 4.6 assists in his last five games, but was a huge factor in the win over Orlando with 20 points, five assists, and seven rebounds.

the Pistons also got 20 points out of Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye, while Rodney Stuckey and Ben Gordon each had 16 points. The Pistons shot nearly 46% from the field and were extremely efficient offensively with just six turnovers the entire game.

The Pistons did a great job against a good Orlando offense, holding the Magic under 100 points and forcing them into 16 turnovers. Detroit has only giving up 100 points in one of their last seven games, and if they can keep the Nuggets in check they have a great shot at winning this game.

I think you have to take the points and bet on the Pistons to not only cover, but likely win this game. Even with the win last night, the Nuggets are just 6-13 on the road this season, and you also have to throw in the fact that they are playing on back-to-back nights on the road.
