NBA Picks: Golden State Warriors at Phoenix Suns

Written by -

The Phoenix Suns will look to get back to the .500 mark for the first time since Dec. 19 when they host the Golden State Warriors Thursday night. Phoenix is 2-0 against the Warriors this season, with both wins coming at Golden State. Tip-off is set for 9:00 ET at US Airways Center.

Taking a look at the NBA spreads for tonight’s games, oddsmakers have the Suns favored by 6-points with the total sitting at 218.

The Warriors were able to hold on for a 116-114 win at home over the Denver Nuggets last night. It was the Warriors fourth win in their last five games, but they are just 6-17 on the road this season, and have lost 10 straight at Phoenix.

The Suns come in off a 104-92 win at Golden State on Monday. Phoenix has also won four of their last five games overall, including three of their last four at home.

The Warriors got another big performance from Monta Ellis against the Nuggets. Ellis finished with 37 points on 16-30 shooting. Ellis had 21 points and 12 rebounds against Phoenix, but was just 5-17 from the field.

The Warriors also got 23 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists from Dorell Wright, 16 points, 12 rebounds and six assists from David Lee, and 18 points and six assists off the bench from Reggie Williams. Golden State finished the game 14-28 from three-point range, and really moved the ball well with 30 assists on 47 made baskets.

The Warriors did struggle on the defensive end of the floor, allowing Denver to shoot 53% from the field, and if it wasn’t for the Nuggets 18 turnovers, they likely would have lost the game.

Phoenix will look to slow down the Warriors much like they did on Monday, when they held Golden State to just 92 points on 43.4% shooting. Phoenix has really looked a lot better on the defensive end lately, allowing an average of just 90.6 over their last five games.

In the win over Golden State, Phoenix hit 13 three-point shots compared to the Warriors two. If the Suns continue to shoot like that from long distance, they are going to be a very tough team to beat.

Channing Frye went 5-9 from deep on his way to a team-high 19 points to go along with his 11 rebounds against the Warriors. Grant Hill added 18 points, while Steve Nash finished with 14 points and 15 assists. Mickael Pietrus and Jared Dudley each had 12 points off the bench.

With Golden State coming in off a grueling game last night against the Nuggets, I think your money has to be on the Suns to not only win the game but cover the 6-point spread. Phoenix will have a little extra motivation to get back to that .500 mark.
