NBA Picks: Milwaukee Bucks at Phoenix Suns

Written by -

The Phoenix Suns will look to start February off much like they ended January when they host the Milwaukee Bucks Wednesday night. Our NBA spreads have the Suns favored by 5-points over the Bucks with the total set at 198.

Milwaukee fell 105-98 to the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday, and will try and win in Phoenix for the first time since 1987.

Phoenix is coming off two very impressive wins, beating Boston 88-71 last Friday, and then holding off New Orleans for a 104-102 win on Sunday. Phoenix finshed January on a 7-3 run.

This will be the third game back for Brandon Jennings, and even though the Bucks lost their last game, Jennings had 12 points and three assists in just 17 minutes of work. Milwaukee will likely continue to ease Jennings back into things, so don’t expect to see a lot of him tonight.

Corey Maggette continued his strong play with 25 points against the Clippers, and is averaging 22.5 over his last five games. Andrew Bogut finished the game with 14 points and 11 rebounds, but his status is up in the air for this game, as he injured his right knee late against the Clippers. Bogut, along with John Salmons and Drew Gooden are listed as questionable for this game.

It might not matter who plays for Milwaukee with the way they have struggled against the Suns in Phoenix. It also won’t help that the Suns are playing some of their best basketball of the season right now.

Marcin Gortat has been a big reason for the Suns latest success. Gortat had 19 points and 17 rebounds off the bench against the Celtics, then dropped 25 points and 11 rebounds on the Hornets. Gortat however played just 30 minutes against Boston, and only 24 against New Orleans. With the way this guy is producing, you have to wonder why he isn’t getting more playing time.

While Gortat shined off the bench against the Hornets, all five starters scored in double-figures for Phoenix. Grant Hill finished with 16 points, Vince Carter added 12, and Steve Nash helped out with 10 points and 15 assists.

The Suns are in the middle of a five-game homestand. They started it off with a 114-107 loss to Charlotte, but can improve to 3-1 with a win over Milwaukee tonight. While the Suns are just 13-10 at home this season, they are 5-1 in their last six at home. Milwaukee is just 8-17 on the road this season, and I think its pretty easy in this one. Take the Suns and lay the points.
