NBA Spreads: Dallas Mavericks at Denver Nuggets

Written by -

The Denver Nuggets will try to end the Dallas Mavericks 10-game winning streak when the two teams face off at the Pepsi Center tonight. The Nuggets will also be looking to avoid their first three-game losing streak at home since the 2006-07 season. Tip-off is set for 10:30 ET and will be televised nationally on TNT.

Our NBA spreads have the Nuggets favored by 3-points over the Mavericks with the total set at 210.5.

The Mavericks were able to extend their winning streak to 10 games with a 102-100 win at Sacramento last night. It was the Mavericks second straight win by three-points or less, and their fifth straight on the road.

Denver failed to come away with a win at Golden State last night, falling 116-114, despite another strong effort from Carmelo Anthony. Denver is just 2-5 over their last seven.

These two teams faced off twice way back at the beginning of the season. The Nuggets were able to hold on for a 102-101 win at home, while the Mavericks cruised to a 103-92 win in Dallas.

Both teams have a couple of injury concerns that are worth noting. Dirk Nowitzki injured his right wrist in the Mavericks win over the Kings last night, but is expected to play through it. Chauncey Billups was forced to sit out the Nuggets last game with a strained left knee, but is also expected to lay tonight. Either of these players not at 100% could have a huge impact on this game.

Nowitzki finished with just 10 points on 4-14 shooting against the Kings, and it looked as though the Kings were going to pull out the win, but Jose Juan Barea scored 15 of his 20 points off the bench in the final period to help Dallas secure the win.

Jason Terry also had a strong game off the bench with 22 points. Jason Kidd finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.

After dropping 50 points in a home loss to the Rockets on Monday, Anthony put in 29 on 11-21 shooting, but wasn’t pleased with how the game ended against the Warriors. Denver trailed by just two with eight seconds to go, but instead of Anthony getting the final shot, Nene ended up with the ball and failed to deliver. It was Nene’s only miss of the game, as he scored 17 points on 6-7 shooting.

Denver also got some nice production from their bench. Al Harrington came into score 18 points and grab eight boards, while J.R. Smith added 16 points on 7-12 shooting.

Denver is 21-7 at home this season, but winning on the road hasn’t been much of a problem for the Mavericks, as they are 17-7 away from home this season.

Neither team figures to have a whole lot of energy playing their fifth game in a week span, plus playing the second night of a back-t0-back. I am going to play the odds and say Denver doesn’t lose their third straight at home, and I think that should lead to a cover. Dallas has barely came away with wins against Cleveland and Sacramento in their last two games.
