NBA Spreads: Detroit Pistons at Phoenix Suns

Written by -

The Phoenix Suns will look to snap out of their recent funk when they host the Detroit Pistons tonight. Phoenix lost 123-110 at home against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, and are just 2-8 in their last 10 games. As for the Pistons they come in off a big 104-92 win over the Boston Celtics, but things haven’t been going much better for Detroit, as they are just 5-10 in their last 15. Looking at the NBA spreads for tonight’s game, the oddsmakers have the Suns favored by 6-points over the Pistons at home.

The Pistons caught a big of a break against the Celtics, as Boston lost Kevin Garnett in the first quarter with a leg injury, and just didn’t look the same after that. Detroit went on to shoot 55.7% from the field, and were lights out from downtown connecting on 66.7% (10-15) of their 3-point shots.

The Pistons were without their leading scorer Rodney Stuckey, who was out with a stomach virus. Stuckey is listed as questionable for tonight’s game. Tracy McGrady stepped into the starting lineup, and scored 21 points and  dished out eight assists in 30 minutes, all season highs.

McGrady got plenty of help, as five other Detroit players scored in double figures. The Pistons figure to get plenty of opportunities to score tonight, as the Suns come in allowing 110 points a game this season.

The Suns defense was no where to be found against the 76ers, as they allowed seven different Philadelphia players to score in double figures, and the 76ers only played eight guys the entire game.

Steve Nash led the Suns with 23 points and 15 assists, while Vince Carter scored 18 points in his Phoenix debut. Phoenix also got 15 points from Mickeal Pietrus and 13 from Marcin Gortat, as the three former Magic players combined for 46 points.

As bad as the Suns are playing right now, this team is still trying to figure out how to play together, and I just think there is too much talent for the Suns to stay under .500 for the remainder of the season.

The Suns are just 7-7 at home this season, but are just 1-4 in their last five games at US Airways Center, with the lone win coming against the Timberwolves. Detroit however is just 3-13 on the road this season, and a big reason why the Suns are favored by six in this one.

I think the play is on the Suns tonight. Detroit is coming off an emotional win against the Celtics in their last game, and its only a matter of time before the Suns turn things around.
