NBA Spreads: Golden State Warriors at Orlando Magic

Written by -

The Orlando Magic will go for their sixth straight win on Monday when they host the Golden State Warriors. The Magic come into the game off a 112-103 win over the New York Knicks last Thursday, and it really looks like the trades they made to acquire Hedo Turkoglu, Gilbert Arenas, and Jason Richardson are really starting to pay off. The Warriors went to Miami and gave the Heat a run for their money on Saturday, but wound up losing 114-107. This will be the first of two meetings between these teams. Orlando swept the season series 2-0 last year. Checking out the NBA spreads for this game, the oddsmakers have the Magic favored by 10.5-points over the Warriors at home.

The Warriors got off to a great start against the Heat, as they scored 36 points in each of the first two quarters to take a 72-58 lead into halftime. The Heat turned up the defense in the second half, as the Warriors scored just 35 points over the final two periods.

Dorell Wright led the way with 30 points, thanks t0 6-13 shooting from three-point range. Monte Ellis added 25 points, while David Lee recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.  It was the second time in the last three games that Wright scored 30 or more, and is currently averaging 24.6 over his last five games.

The Warriors as a team went 13-27 from long distance, and if they are going to give the Magic a run for their money tonight, they need the outside shots to be falling, as they really don’t have the size to compete with Orlando down low.

The Magic also got off to a great start in their last game, as they outscored the Knicks 40-21 in the second quarter to take a 62-44 lead into the half, but unlike the Warriors they were able to hold on and take home the win.

Seven players reached double-figures against the Knicks, led by 24 points and 18 rebounds from Dwight Howard. Hedo Turkoglu added 17 points, four assists, and nine rebounds, while Brandon Bass, J.J. Redick, and Ryan Anderson all had 14 points.

Howard should be able to dominate the paint against the Warriors tonight, as they just don’t have the size to compete with him. Even with the big advantage down low, expect the Magic to take plenty of shots from downtown, as they love to shoot the 3-pointer. Orlando went 9-27 against the Knicks, and when they get going from downtown they are very tough to beat.

No question the Magic should win this game, but laying 10.5 points seems a bit risky. Golden State has been playing much better lately, and as long as they don’t go ice cold from the field, I think they can at least make this game respectable.
