NBA Spreads: Houston Rockets at Los Angeles Clippers

Written by -

The emerging Los Angeles Clippers will look for their fourth straight win tonight when they host the Houston Rockets, who have also won three straight coming into this game. The Clippers won back-to-back games on the road over the Pistons and Bulls this weekend, and then dominated the Timberwolves 113-90 on Monday for their third win in a row. Los Angeles hasn’t won’t four straight since right around this time last season. Houston comes in off a 121-112 win over the Warriors, and have now won five of their last six and are just two games under .500 after starting the season 5-12. Looking at the NBA spreads for tonight’s games, the oddsmakers seem to think this game is pretty much a toss up, as the Clippers are either favored by 1 or getting 1 depending on which sportsbook you go through.

The Rockets are just 5-11 on the road this season, but have been playing much better away from home lately, as they look for their third straight win on the road tonight.

In the Rockets latest win over the Warriors, Kevin Martin scored 30 points, and has really been playing well lately. Martin has scored at least 30 points in three of the Rockets last six games.

Martin isn’t the only one getting it done offensively, as all five starters scored in double-figures against the Warriors, including 20 points from Louis Scola. Houston continues to give Aaron Brooks more and more minutes, and once he gets going, this team figures to be a lot better than what they have looked like so far this season.

The Clippers are riding the success of their young power forward Blake Griffin, who recorded his 16th straight double-double against Minnesota on Monday with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Griffin is without question the leader for Rookie of the Year, and it’s sometime hard to believe that this is just his first season.

Eric Gordon is also playing much better of late. Gordon had a team-high 36 points with six assists and five steals against the Timberwolves, and is absolutely on fire from down down lately, making 61.5% from the three-point line in the Clippers last three games. Gordon was 5-7 from long distance against Minnesota.

As good as the Clippers have been over their last three games, I think Houston has been even more impressive during their three game winning streak, and that has me putting my money on the Rockets to win the game and cover the spread tonight.
