NBA Spreads: New York Knicks at Portland Trail Blazers

Written by -

The Portland Trail Blazers are set to host the New York Knicks Tuesday night at the Rose Garden. Portland nearly ended the Miami Heat’s impressive road winning streak, but fell 107-100 in overtime on Sunday. The loss snapped an eight-game home winning streak. The Knicks also had a rough go of things in their last game, as they got crushed by the Lakers 109-87. Portland won at New York 100-95 way back on Oct. 30. This will be the final meeting between the two teams this season. Our NBA spreads have the Trail Blazers favored by 3.5-points over the Knicks with the total sitting at 203.

The Trail Blazers got 29 points from Brandon Roy in their first game against the Knicks, but are without their star shooting guard for this game, and it will likely come down to the inside matchup between LaMarcus Aldridge of the Trail Blazers and Amare Stoudemire of the the Knicks. Aldridge had 20 points and 10 rebounds in the first game, while Stoudemire had just 18 points and five rebounds.

That was just the third game for Stoudemire with his new team, and there is no question he has picked up his game since that point, but at the same time Aldridge is also improving as the season goes on, and is a big reason why the Trail Blazers have been able to stay a float without Roy in the lineup.

Stoudemire is averaging 26 points and eight rebounds over his last five games, but Aldridge has been even better in his last five, scoring 27.8 points and grabbing 11.6 rebounds a game. Look for both players to play much better than they did in the first game against each other.

The key for the Trail Blazers will be finding a way to slow the Knicks down and keep the rest of the team in check. Stoudemire is going to get his, but if they can limit guys like Raymond Felton and Wilson Chandler, they have a great shot at winning.

The Knicks are 11-8 on the road this season, and a lot of that has to do with this team is tough to slow down and if you let them get going, especially from three-point range, you are in trouble.

Portland is 12-4 at home this season, so you have to like their chances of responding with a big performance at home off a loss. However New York has been great on the road this season against the spread. The Knicks are 14-5 ATS on the road, and are 13-3 ATSĀ  as a road underdog this season.
