NBA Spreads: Los Angeles Lakers at Phoenix Suns

Written by -

The Phoenix Suns are set to host the Los Angeles Lakers in a Pacific Division showdown. The Suns come in off disappointing 94-89 loss at Sacrament, and have won just three times in their last 12 games. As for the Lakers, they were able to bounce back from a bad loss against Memphis with a 108-83 win over the Pistons last night. This is the third meeting between these two teams, and so far each team has won on the road. Checking out the NBA spreads for this game, oddsmakers have the Lakers favored by 4-points over Suns.

The Lakers got a big performance from Pau Gasol last night, as he led the way with 21 points and seven rebounds. Kobe Bryant had an all-around good game with 17 points, eight assists, and seven boards. Also Lamar Odom came off the bench to score 16 points and grab nine rebounds, as the Lakers made it look easy.

As good as the Lakers looked last night, they have to continue to play at this level on a consistent basis. Los Angeles is still just 3-4 in their last seven games, and it seems like every time they get something going they fall find a way to struggle.

It will be interesting to see how the Lakers respond playing a team like Phoenix in the second game of a back-to-back. The Lakers haven’t had much success stopping the Suns in the two games this season. The Lakers allowed the Suns to make 22 3-point shots in the last game between these two teams, and if they let Phoenix get going from downtown tonight, the Lakers are going to be in trouble.

The good news for the Lakers is it appears they have caught the Suns at the right time. While the Suns have been better on the defensive side of the ball since the trade that brought in Vince Carter, Mickael Pietrus and Marcin Gortat, they can’t seem to find a way to win games.

In the Suns last game against the Kings, Steve Nash went 8-8 from the field to lead the way with 20 points, but the Suns had just three other players score in double-figures. Phoenix comes into the game tonight allowing 108 points  a game, and for this team to win they need more than just one player scoring at least 20 points.

As bad as the Suns are playing, I like Phoenix at +4 tonight. The Lakers are not only playing the second of a back-to-back, but they are playing their sixth game in the last nine days. Phoenix on the other hand is playing just their second game in the last five days, and they are 20-8 ATS in home games when playing only their 2nd game in 5 days over the last 3 seasons.
