NBA Spreads: Minnesota Timberwolves at Boston Celtics

Written by -

The Boston Celtics are set to host the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight, but their will be no reunion with Kevin Garnett and his old team, as Garnett is expected to be out a couple weeks with a leg injury, but that may not matter in this one, as the Celtics have won seven straight against the Timberwolves. Boston snapped a two-game losing streak with a 93-79 win over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday. Minnesota also comes in off a win, as they topped the Nets 103-88 on Saturday. Checking out the NBA spreads for tonight’s games, the oddsmakers have the Celtics favored by 8-points over the Timberwolves at home.

While the Celtics are without Garnett, Rajon Rondo returned to the lineup against the Raptors after missing seven-games with a sprained left ankle. Rondo finished with just four points and eight assists, but you can just see how much better the Celtics offense looks with him on the floor.

Paul Pierce led the way with 30 points, Ray Allen added 23, and Glen Davis finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists filling in for Garnett in the starting lineup. If Davis continues to play like this, the Celtics figure to be just fine until Garnett returns.

Boston however better take the Timberwolves seriously in this one, as they are playing as well as they have all season. Minnesota has won three of four, thanks in large part to the play of Kevin Love and Michael Beasley.

Love recorded his 20th consecutive double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds against the Nets, and is averaging 21 points and 14 rebounds over his last five games. Beasley had just 10 points against New Jersey, but is still averaging 25 over his last five games.

The problem for the Timberwolves all season has been their inability to stop opposing teams from scoring at will, as they are allowing 108.9 points a game this season. Minnesota has held their opponents under 100 points in each of their last three wins, but only one of those wins came on the road, where they are just 2-17 this season.

While I think the Celtics will find a way to win this game, I think there is a lot of value on Timberwolves at +8. Boston is just 5-3 when playing the second game of a back-to-back, and I think not having Garnett is going to allow Love to control the board and keep Minnesota in the game.
