NBA Spreads: Philadelphia 76ers at Orlando Magic

Written by -

The Orlando Magic will go for their seventh straight win at home, when they host the Philadelphia 76ers Wednesday night. The 76ers won at Orlando  97-89 back on Dec. 18, but Orlando had just completed a trade for Hedo Turkoglu, Jason Richardson, and Gilbert Arenas, and they had not yet joined the team.

The 76ers won 96-92 in overtime against the Charlotte Bobcats on Monday, and will go for their third straight win tonight. Philadelphia’s longest winning streak this season is three games.

The Magic return home after a 2-3 road trip that ended with a 109-106 loss at Boston. The Magic lost all three games by a combined seven points.

Taking a look at the NBA spreads for tonight’s games, oddsmakers have the Magic favored by 9-points over the 76ers with the total sitting at 198.5.

The 76ers got a big game from Lou Williams in their win over Orlando earlier this season. Williams came off the bench to score 24 points, while Andre Iguodala added 21 points and seven assists, and Elton Brand had 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Williams has continued to play well, scoring 23 off the bench against the Bobcats on Monday, and when he gets it going offensively the 76ers have been a tough team to beat. Iguodla and Brand each had a double-double in the win.

Jrue Holiday has struggled to find his shot in the last two games, scoring just 10 points in each outing while shooting just 7-20 from the field. If Philadelphia is going to pull out the win at Orlando tonight, they need Holiday to step up and have a big game.

The Magic are hoping that their defense will come alive at home. Orlando gave up just over 106 points a game during their five game road trip.

Dwight Howard had 33 points and 13 rebounds against the Celtics, and has really picked up his game of late. Howard is averaging 28 points and 14.6 rebounds in his last five games. In the first meeting against the 76ers Howard had 26 points and 20 rebounds.

The plus for the Magic is they have at least eight guys who can step onto the court and really have a big game offensively. Ryan Anderson had 16 points in 29 minutes off the bench against Boston, and with some many guys who can shoot from outside, you just don’t know who is going to have a big night outside of Howard.

I think this is a great time to jump on the Magic after their recent struggles on the road. Philadelphia just doesn’t have the talent to keep up with the Magic offensively, and I think we will see a much better effort on the defensive side of the court for the Magic. Orlando is 15-5 at home this season, compared to Philadelphia, who is just 5-16 on the road.
