NBA Spreads: Sacramento Kings at Los Angeles Lakers

Written by -

The Los Angeles Lakers will go for their seventh straight win over the Sacramento Kings when the two teams face off at the Staples Center tonight. Two of those wins have came this season, as the Lakers won 112-100 at Sacramento on Nov. 3, and then crushed the Kings 113-80 at home on Dec. 3.

The Kings come in off a 94-89 loss at home against the Bobcats on Tuesday, and have just one win in their last six games.

Los Angeles will look to build off two sold performances as they beat the Nuggets 107-97 at Denver last Friday, followed by a 120-91 win at home against the Jazz on Tuesday. This will be just the third game in the last eight days for Los Angeles.

Taking a look at the NBA spreads for tonight’s game, oddsmakers have the Lakers favored by 13.5 points with the total set at 199.

Winning on the road hasn’t been easy for the Kings this season. Sacramento is just 4-16 away from home, but two of their last road wins have came against winning teams, including a 96-81 thrashing of the Trail Blazers on Monday.

Despite the Kings struggle to win games lately, their last five losses have been decided by seven points or less. A big reason for that is the play of point guard Tyreke Evans, who is averaging 22.4 points, 5.4 assists, and 5.4 rebounds over his last five games.

Evans had 19 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in the loss to Charlotte, but didn’t get much help from the rest of his team. Carl Landry scored 19 points off the benchm and Jason Thompson added 14, but no other player scored in double figures. DeMarcus Cousins had just nine points, after scoring 35 in the previous two games, and Beno Udrih had just six points after averaging 15.5 over his last four.

Getting things going against the Lakers figures to be quite the challenge for the Kings, as they are averaging just 90 points against Los Angeles this season.

The Lakers defense was a big reason why they had such an easy time handling the Jazz in their last game. Los Angeles held Utah to just 4`.9% shooting, and held the Jazz to just 38 first half points, as they went into halftime with a 28-point lead.

Kobe Bryant led the way with 21 points, but got plenty of help in the win. Pau Gasol finished with 20, Andrew Bynum had 19 and 11 rebounds, and Lamar Odom came of the bench to score 17 points in just 22 minutes.

While I think the Lakers are without question the better team in this game, I actually like the Kings to cover the 13 point spread. Sacramento is going to come in playing hard after already losing to the Lakers twice this season, and Los Angeles will likely be looking ahead to their showdown against the Celtics on Sunday.
