NBA Spreads: San Antonio Spurs at Detroit Pistons
Written by Steve Janus - Google +
The San Antonio Spurs will look for their third straight win on the road when they visit the Detroit Pistons tonight. This is the first meeting between the two teams this season.
Taking a look at the NBA spreads for tonight’s games, oddsmakers have the Spurs favored by 6.5-points over the Pistons with the total set at 190.5.
After falling 99-86 to the Trail Blazers last Tuesday, San Antonio beat the Lakers 89-88 on Thursday and followed that up with a 113-100 win over the Kings on Friday. The Spurs are now 2-1 on their grueling nine-game road trip.
Detroit is also looking for their third straight win, as they beat the Nets 92-82 on Friday and then went to Milwaukee to beat the Bucks 89-78 on Saturday.

The Spurs didn’t have much trouble with the Kings in their last game, as they jumped out to an early 18-point lead. Tony Parker led six different Spurs who reached double-figures with 25 points to go along with his seven assists. Tim Duncan finished with 12 points in just 13 minutes, while Richard Jefferson and Tiago Splitter each contributed 16 points.
San Antonio is a veteran team and the three days they have had off between playing the Kings and tonight should only benefit this team. San Antonio is 9-3 when playing with two or more days rest this season.
Detroit’s Richard Hamilton saw his first action since Jan. 10 in the Pistons last game against the Bucks. Hamilton came off the bench to score 15 points in 20 minutes, shooting 7-14 from the field. It appears as though head coach John Kuester is going to continue to use Hamilton, while Detroit continues to wait for Rodney Stuckey to return from injury.
The Pistons also got a big game from veteran Tracy McGrady in their win over Milwaukee. McGrady had a team-high 20 points. Tayshaun Prince and Ben Gordon each helped out with 12 points a piece. Detroit shot 51.5% from the field, while holding the Bucks to just 39.2%.
Keeping a fresh San Antonio team in check figures to be a challenge for the Pistons. The Spurs are averaging just under 104 points a game this season, and have topped the 100 point mark in each of the last two games against Detroit.
It seems as though the Spurs take pride in beating whoever they go up against, and with the extra rest, I think you have to take the Spurs at -6.5 in this one. Detroit is just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
