NBA Spreads: San Antonio Spurs at Orlando Magic

Written by -

The San Antonio Spurs will look for their 11th consecutive victory when they go on the road to take on the Orlando Magic tonight. It will the second time this season that the Spurs have went up against the Magic with a 10 game winning streak on the line. San Antonio was successful the first time around, beating the Magic 106-97 at home on Nov. 22.  Orlando went on to win six straight after losing to the Spurs, and were 15-4 overall, but have since went  1-8 in their last nine games after falling to the Mavericks at home on Tuesday 105-99. The Spurs on the other hand come in with the NBA’s best record at 25-3, as they continue to find ways to win night after night. Taking a look a the NBA spreads for tonight’s game, the oddsmakers have the Magic favored by 2.5-points over the Spurs at home.

The Magic have to be wondering what exactly they traded for after two games, as Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu, and Glibert Arenas are shooting just 24.5% (13-53).  I don’t think there is a lot to worry about for the Magic, these are three good players and they are going to start making some shots once they get more comfortable with the offense.

While the new additions have been struggling, Dwight Howard has been doing everything he can to get this team a win. Howard is avearging 23 points and 17 rebounds in his last five games, including two games where he had at least 20 points and at least 20 rebounds. It’s just a matter of time before this team wins if Howard continues to dominate down low like he has. Howard had 26 points and 18 rebounds against the Spurs earlier this season.

As for the Spurs they will likely turn to Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, who combined for 49 points and 19 assists against the Magic earlier this season. Ginobili led the way with 25 points, and while Parker and Tim Duncan are good,  Ginobili is the reason the Spurs have the best record.

Another guy for the Magic to keep an eye on is Matt Bonner, who went 4-4 from 3-point range and finished with 15 points.

As bad as the Magic have been, I think they come out and get the win at home tonight. This will be the Spurs sixth game in the last nine days. San Antonio really struggled against the Nuggets without Carmelo Anthony, and I just don’t see them coming out with much intensity tonight.
