NBA Spreads: San Antonio Spurs at Utah Jazz

Written by -

The Utah Jazz will look to snap a five-game losing streak when the host the San Antonio Spurs Wednesday night. The Spurs beat the Jazz 94-82 at Utah in the only matchup between these two teams this season. Tip-off is set for 9:30 ET at EnergySolutions Arena and will be televised nationally on ESPN.

The Spurs come in off a 113-102 win at Golden State, and have won 9 of 10 overall. San Antonio leads the NBA with a 38-7 record.

The Jazz finished up a five-game road trip with a 120-91 loss against the Los Angeles Lakers. Utah failed to win a single game on the trip, and their closest game was a 108-101 loss at Washington. Utah has won 12 of their last 16 at home.

Taking a look at the NBA spreads for tonight’s game, oddsmakers have the Spurs favored by 3.5-points with the total set at 199.

The Spurs got a bit of a scare in their last game against the Grizzlies, as Tim Duncan went down with a knee injury in the second quarter, but the injury didn’t prove to be serious and Duncan returned as Duncan returned to start the second half and finished the game with 16 points and seven rebounds.

San Antonio also got solid performances from Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker. Ginobili finished with 20 points and seven assists, while Parker had 18 and 11 dimes.

The Spurs also got plenty of help from their bench, as Antonio McDyess and George Hill each had 14 points, plus Gary Neal added 11 points in 24 minutes. The Spurs bench outscored the Warriors 46-14.

The bench had just 14 points in their win at Utah earlier this season, but all five starters scored in double-figures, led by Parker who had a game-high 24 points.

Utah averaged just 91.6 points a game during their five-game road skid, and really looked like a completely different team than the one that had won three straight going into the road trip.

Deron Williams had 17 points and eight assists in the loss to the Lakers last night, but averaged just 18 points over his last five games, and simply has to be more of a factor offensively if the Jazz are going to beat the Spurs this time around.  Williams had a team-high 23 points in the first game against the Spurs, but finished with just five assists.

Head coach Jerry Sloan moved C.J. Miles into the starting lineup against the Lakers to try and get something going for this team. Miles had 14 points put only played 28 minutes. Miles averaged just 10 points during the road trip.

I think we will see a better Utah team tonight, but it’s hard telling if it will result in a win after they way this team looked in their last five games. Utah is just 2-2 ATS at home against the Spurs, but if they are going to beat San Antonio its going to be on the road. The Spurs last five losses have all came on the road.
