NBA Spreads: Utah Jazz at New Orleans Hornets
Written by Steve Janus - Google +
The New Orleans Hornets will look to snap a four game losing streak against the Utah Jazz when the two teams meet up at New Orleans Arena tonight. The Jazz came away with an easy 105-87 win over the Hornets at home back on Nov. 24. Utah comes into the game tonight off a 108-95 win over the Golden State Warriors, but have alternated a win with a loss over the last seven games. New Orleans snapped a three game losing streak with a 94-91 win over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday. However, the Hornets are just 4-9 since starting the season 11-1. Looking at the NBA spreads for tonight’s games, the oddsmakers seem to think these two teams are pretty evenly matched, as the Jazz come in just 1.5-point favorites over the Hornets.

While all the buzz around the NBA is about Amare Stoudemire and his nine straight games of 30 or more points, Derron Williams has quietly scored 30 or more in three straight games. Williams who was taken just one spot ahead of Hornets point guard Chris Paul, has made a living of tormenting New Orleans in his NBA career. Williams is 12-3 against the Hornets, and is coming off a 26 point, 11 assists, and five steals performance against New Orleans earlier this season.
Paul has 17 points and nine assists against the Jazz, and is coming off one of his better performances of the season, as he scored 22 points and dished out 11 assists against the Warriors. Paul had just 15 assists during the Hornets three game losing streak, and it seems pretty clear that this team needs him to play at a very high level for them to win games.
The big difference in the lopsided affair that took place earlier this season was the production that Utah got out of Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson. Jefferson had 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Millsap added 17 points and seven rebounds. If these two have a similar game tonight, the Jazz will likely roll over the Hornets once again.
The Hornets have been a much better team at home this season, as they are 10-3 at New Orleans Arena. A big reason for the Hornets success at home is the fact that they are allowing opponents just 91.5 points a game. The big problem for the Hornets lately has been their inability to put points on the board. New Orleans is averaging just 87 points over their last five games.
It is hard to bet against the Jazz in this one, Utah is 7-3 ATS on the road this season, and are 7-1 ATS against the Hornets over the last three seasons.
