NC State at Florida State Football Spread

Written October 29, 2009 by Hector Garza

NC State and Florida State both have the same record at 3-4 in the ACC, but only one will walk away at .500. The college football lines have the Wolf pack as the underdog by 9 1/2 as they travel to Doak Campbell Stadium for the noon matchup (ET) this Saturday. While they started out strong with a 3-1 record, they’ve dropped three straight but have had time to regroup after their bye week. FSU is coming off a very close 30-27 road win against North Carolina and is looking for their 2nd conference win. The total for the game is set at 64 1/2, and you can get a 20% DEPOSIT BONUS for signing up at Bookmaker when you bet on college football.

Bobby Bowden has been getting pressured as his Seminoles jumped out to a 2-4 record, their worst under the long time head coach. Two of the games came by a total of 9 points against ranked ACC opponents Miami (FL) and Georgia Tech. While he may be feeling the heat, the offense has been putting up respectable numbers averaging 427.7 ypg with over 310 of those coming in the passing attack. QB Christian Ponder was sensational last week, going 33-40 for 395 yards and 3 td’s with no ints. On the year he’s completing 70% of his passes for 311 ypg, 12 td’s and only 1 int.

The defense has been up and down this year, tallying 16 takeaways but allowing 28 ppg along with 413 ypg. While they’ve accounted for 8 ints and 8 fumble recoveries, they’ve allowed too much ground for opponents and have done a poor job on 3rd downs, giving up the first over 41% of the time. One highlight from last week came when they held UNC to only 95 passing yards, but this is the weak point of the team and there is plenty of room for improvement.   Get your college football picks from your friends at BetFirms this season.

The Wolf Pack haven’t had as difficult a schedule, which makes their 4 losses that much more disappointing. QB Russell Wilson has been impressive as he’s led the team with 16 td’s on only 4 ints to over 260 ypg in the air. He’s also 2nd in rushing for the team with just under 250 yards and 3 td’s. State has been giving themselves a chance to win ballgames by averaging 31.9 ppg, and the rushing game has been solid as well averaging over 127 ypg on the ground. They’ve proven they can put up the points, and FSU has proven they’re susceptible.

The NC State defense is similar to FSU’s in that they’re giving up 27.1 ppg but they’re allowing almost a 100 fewer yards per contest at 311.1 per game. Their strength has been against the run, where they’ve held offenses to 95.7 ypg, although they were embarrassed last week against Boston College as they gave up 5 rushing scores and 6.8 ypc.

While Florida State has a 20-9 lead in the overall series, both of these defenses have shown their capable of giving up a lot of points. FSU has the experience and better athletes on their side, along with the home field advantage. I can see the Noles trying to make a point that they’re still around in the ACC with a double digit beat down.
