NCAA Basketball Lines: BYU v. Kansas State

Written March 19, 2010 by Anthony Moretti

Friday’s round two action in the West region wraps up with the game between the BYU Cougars and the Kansas State Wildcats.  The Cougars had the tougher first round game, needing overtime to beat the Florida Gators 99-92.  The Wildcats made quick work of North Texas, getting up big early before closing out a 20-point win.  The NCAA basketball odds on the BYU v. Kansas State game show the Wildcats are favored by four points over the Cougars.  If you want to get in on the action then take a look at the $500 match bonus offered to our visitors by BetUS Sportsbook.

If you didn’t know who Jimmer Fredette was before yesterday then you should now.  Fredette showed off his shooting skills and his ability to penetrate the lane, piling up 37 points against the Gators.  Fredette averages 22.1 ppg on the year, but three other Cougars also average double digits.  This means you can’t just focus your attention on Fredette or Jackson Emery, Tyler Haws, and Jonathan Tavernari will beat you.  Another reason this team is tough to beat, free throws.  BYU hits 79% from the charity stripe which is the best in the nation.

Frank Martin’s Kansas State Wildcats wasted little time putting away North Texas, getting up by 16 pionts in the first half by holding the Mean Green to just 31% shooting and forcing 16 turnovers.  This Wildcat team is tough for a lot of schools to match-up with, because they are so deep and play so hard for the entire game.  That frequently wears out the opposition and forces mistakes down the stretch.

This should be a great guard battle, with Fredette on one side and Denis Clemente on the other.  Clemente needs to use his speed to get this team on the break, and Jacob Pullen needs to be hitting from the outside for Kansas State to win.  I think the Cougars keep this one close, that is why with my college basketball picks I’m going to take BYU +4.
