NCAA Basketball Picks 1/14/08

Written January 13, 2008 by Jack Jones

Picked up a nice win on Oregon -2 yesterday.  Let’s keep it going with a bunch of games for Monday.

Record 10-15 -650

Georgetown -2.5

This is a good game between two solid Big East teams, and we are taking the Hoyas.  Georgetown is 21-11 ATS against teams with a winning record the past two years and they are 6-0 ATS the last three against teams who average more than 40 boards per game.  The Hoyas are 16-5 ATS against good defensive teams who hold their opponents under 64 ppg, and Pittsburgh fits all of these categories with their 14-2 record, 41 rebounds per game, and opponents scoring only 62.8 ppg this season.

Oklahoma +16.5

This should be a closer contest that the odds makers think.  Kansas has never fared well against good three-point shooting teams, going 41-64 ATS the last ten years against teams who make more than 37% of their shots from beyond the arc.  The Sooners are currently hitting at a 38% clip taking 18 per game.  They also don’t play well after blowouts, going 7-18 ATS in home games their last 25 after two straight wins by 15 or more points.  The Jayhawks just blew out Nebraska and Loyola-MD, but a third straight blood bath isn’t in the cards.

Pepperdine +14

We’ll take Pepperdine on their home court tonight as they are 6-0 ATS against teams who average 7 or more rebounds than their opponents and they are 9-2 ATS this season as an underdog.  We expect that Pepperdine will set a fast pace in this one and be able to score enough points to cover the number.

San Jose State +7

Hawaii is 7-17 ATS against teams who let their opponents shoot more than 45% from the floor and they are 20-40 ATS after having lost four or five of their last six games the past 3 seasons.  The Warriors are a team that you want to go against whenever possible, and we see tonight being one of the nights the value is there.
