NCAA Tournament Betting Lines: New Mexico vs Montana

In the NCAA tournament’s East Region, the #3 seed New Mexico will square off against the #14 seed in Montana. The #3 seed has dominated the match up in past tournaments, winning 85% of the games outright, however, an upset is obviously not impossible. New Mexico- The Lobos had a dominating year in the Mountain West Conference. They went 29-4 overall and lost just 2 conference games all year, easily winning them the regular season title. They did stumble in the conference tournament, however, losing by 3 points to San Diego State in their 2nd game. The Lobos were tough to stop offensively averaging just under 77 points per game. On the defensive side of the ball they weren’t dominant, but they got the job done allowing 61.2 ppg. Montana- The Grizzlies were no pushover, going 22-9 this season, but at just 10-6, good for 3rd place in the Big Sky, they had to win their conference tournament to earn an automatic bid. That’s exactly what Montana did, knocking off regular season conference champion Weber State in the championship round. Montana averaged about 70 points per game offensively this year, while their defense stifled their opposition, holding them to just 61.2 points per game.

Montana is certainly happy to make it to the big show, but they’ve also played some very weak competition this year. The Big Sky isn’t exactly a powerhouse and the Grizzles are lucky they got hot at the right time. New Mexico is simply has too much offense and too much speed for Montana and I have the Lobos advancing to the 2nd round.
