NCAA Tournament Odds: Midwest Region

Written March 17, 2009 by Jack Jones

ncaa-tournament-odds-midwest-region-031709Let’s head to the Midwest Region in this year’s NCAA tournament bracket and find out which teams have the best odds to win their region and make it to the Final Four.  Louisville and Michigan state are #1 and #2 seeds, and surprise, surprise they’ve been given the best odds in this section of the bracket.  Louisville is my pick to win it all this year, but let’s see what the odds are on them as well as the other teams in the Midwest to win the region.

Louisville +125 – The Cardinals came into the season with high expectations, but few people thought they would take the regular season and tournament crown in the Big East.  This team is scary good and I’m surprised they aren’t giving money to win the Midwest instead of getting some.

Michigan State +330 – This is a solid Michigan State squad that could do some damage in the Midwest.  I don’t see them getting past Louisville, but there’s a good chance they will play them in the Elite 8.

Wake Forest +500 – I can’t decide if the Demon Deacons are overrated or underrated in the tournament.  They beat Clemson twice, North Carolina, Duke, and Florida State during the regular season, but tanked in the ACC Tournament against Maryland.  Wake is a very talented team, but they are obviously a bit unpredictable.

West Virginia +600 – The Mountaineers are a sexy pick right now to do some damage in the Midwest, but I’m not completely sold.  They have some impressive wins on their resume, but also some disappointing losses.  What they do have is the talent and style of play to win if they hit their stride at the right time.

Kansas +700 – I hate that the Jayhawks lost in the first round of the Big 12 tournament to Baylor, but they have some very impressive wins this season.  They beat Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Missouri, all solid tournament teams.  The ability is probably there, but I’m just not sold on them getting to the Final Four this year.

Middle Tier – Ohio State (+2000), Utah (+2500), USC (+2500), Arizona (+3000), Siena (+3000), Boston College (+4000)

Long Shots - Dayton (+5000), Cleveland State (+8000), North Dakota State (+15000), Robert Morris (+50000), Alabama State (+50000), Morehead State (+50000)
