NCAA Tournament Predictions: Oklahoma vs Michigan
Written March 21, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
The Sooners are coming off a blow out win vs 15th seed Morgan State. What makes Oklahoma so relaxed right now is the fact their all world phenom and soon to be names player of the year Blake Griffin is healthy. Oklahoma was very fortunate in my mind when Michigan beat Clemson. The Tigers’ big man Trevor Booker would have had a legit chance to be able to contain Blake. Michigan has absolutely no prayer of that. Willie Warren will be another match up they’ll exploit. Manny Harris of Michigan is a supreme talent but not nearly quick enough to cover Warren. This is a classic mis-match every which way you look at it. That being said, I scratch my head with extreme confusion as the point spread is only Oklahoma -6.5 points. That’s shocking. Oklahoma gives up only 4 more points against but score 13 more per game. They have tremendous size on The Wolverines as well as the speed advantage. Every edge goes to Oklahoma with the exception of the free throw percentage. Expect the Sooners to flat out hammer Michigan on the boards. This is easy money. Take Oklahoma and run. For those of you that bet on college basketball, the line is set at Oklahoma -6.5 over Michigan.
Michigan scored a win over Clemson in round one that surprised me. They made the Tigers look foolish from the field. Manny Harris was fantastic as he usually is, Manny filled the stat book with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Stu Douglas hit big shots as well, he will get the nod to guard Austin Johnson, that could be a difficult task for him. DeShawn Sims will unquestionably be the key for Michigan. He will be guarding Blake Griffin. We all know he won’t be able to do that and probably wont do as much as contain him. If he is held to under 30 points and 15 rebounds consider that a success. This match up has disaster all over it and Michigan stands no chance. Coach Beilein has done an amazing job this year with the Wolverines as he is one of the most underrated coaches in the nation. If Manny Harris has a career night and Sims can play Griffin somewhat well, perhaps Michigan can steal one late. I just can not see that happening. Blake is healthy and his brother Taylor is now cementing himself as a force. A nightmare of a game for Michigan this will be.
Haimo’s Hot Notes: Oklahoma has the best player in college basketball, the speed advantage, the strength advantage, they are more talented and just so much better. Blake Griffin as well as his brother will be the headline but expect freshman guard Willie Warren to have a tremendous game for the Sooners. Manny Harris will do all he can to keep his troops in this game, it just wont be close to enough as they do not have the talent to keep this respectable. Blow out city folks, My BEST BET of the day by a long shot. Do not miss out of this game. Oklahoma -6.5, really? They should win by twenty points. I think they will.
Michigan is 16-11-1 ATS this year
Oklahoma is 14-13-1 ATS this year
Betting Line: Oklahoma -6.5
Jordan’s Pick: (BEST BET) Take Oklahoma -6.5
