Nevada vs. Fresno State Football Betting Odds & Spread

Written November 4, 2008 by Jason Lowry

This Friday WAC conference football will be center stage once again, as the Nevada Wolf Pack get ready to take on the Fresno State Bulldogs in what is a big game for both teams if they want to get into a bowl game this year. Nevada currently sits at 4-4 overall, and they likely will need to win 3 of their final 3 games, and with one of those against Boise State this game is almost a must win for the Wolf Pack. As for Fresno State they are 5-3 and just missed getting that 6th win last week when they fell to Louisiana State on the road 38-35, but they have 2 tough games left against Boise State and San Jose State, so this game at home is a big step in the right direction for the Bulldogs. The oddsmakers think this is going to be a close one, as Fresno State comes in just 1.5 point favorites over Nevada at Bookmaker.com

The Wolf Pack fell for the 2nd time on the road this season, as they just didn’t have enough to beat Hawaii 2 weeks ago. Now you have to like this teams chances this week considering they are coming into the game off a bye week, and that means they have had 2 weeks to prepare for this game. The Wolf Pack offense really rides on quarterback Colin Kaepernick who has already thrown and ran for 12 touchdowns this season. They have got some real good play from running back Vai Taua who ran for 160 yards and a score in their last game. Playing on the road is going to make things tough, but the offense has shown it can score whether they play at home or on the road.

Now the defense has had its struggles and has really gave up some big numbers in the Wolf Pack’s four losses this season. Last week they let Hawaii put up 38 on them, and it will be very tough for this team to win if they repeat those kind of numbers again on the road this week. The defense did have some troubles thanks to the offense as Hawaii turned two Nevada fumbles into 14 points. We think this one will be close all the way. Bet Nevada +1.5 at Bookmaker.com

Fresno State had won two straight before the tough loss to Louisiana Tech last week, and a big rebound at home is key for this team. The offense didn’t have too much struggles last week, as it racked up 359 yards, but there has to be some concern at just 63 of those yards coming on the ground. Quarterback Tom Brandstater threw for 296 yards and 4 scores, so its pretty easy to say this team goes as far as Brndstater will take them. To win this weekend they might need a little more out of the ground game.

The defense for the Bulldogs was not so good last week giving up nearly 400 yards on the ground, and were beat up on the ground, as La Tech racked up 280 yards and 3 scores. There is no question the Wolf Pack can run the football, and its likely they will try and ware down the Bulldogs and pound the football, so if the defense doesn’t step it up at home, this could wind up being another hard loss for the Bulldogs.
