Nevada Notre Dame Odds

1* on Nevada +14.5 - The Notre Dame Fighting Irish look to return to national prominence in 2009 after a disappointing 2008 campaign saw them finish at 7 wins and 6 losses. Head coach Charlie Weis must come close to reaching the 10 win mark and an automatic BCS bowl berth this year in order for the season to be considered a success. While the schedule is not as daunting as some of the previous ones Notre Dame has showcased, a unique Nevada Wolfpack team will travel to South Bend for a Saturday opener that could see both sides hitting big play after big play. The college football lines currently show this game as Notre Dame -14.5 and if you want to bet on football this weekend then take a look at the $500 match bonus being offered to our readers from BetUS.
WAC offensive player of the year Colin Kaepernick Jr comes off of a year where he totaled 2849 yards through the air and 1130 on the ground as a sophomore. He found the end zone 39 times behind a Pistol offense that spreads the ball around and lets the QB make decisions on the fly. Bruising RB Vai Taua opens the offense up through the air with a punishing running style that allowed him to rack up 1521 yards and 15 touchdowns a year ago. The Pack return 14 starters (7 on each side) including 8 defensive backs with starting experience. Most of the secondary played against Big 12 slingers Graham Harrell and Chase Daniel in 2008 so intimidation will not be a factor when over-hyped Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen takes the field. We know that this team will be able to put up points against a questionable Irish defense, but can the Wolfpack D get enough stops to allow the game to stay inside the 2 touchdown spread?
The Fighting Irish have no excuses to make if they don’t live up to or exceed expectations this year. 9 players return from an offense that hit Hawaii for 49 points in the final game of the 2008 season. QB Jimmy Clausen finally showed what he is capable of if everything is clicking by torching the Rainbow Warriors secondary for 413 yards. Sophomore WR Michael Floyd has made the list of many preseason All-American publications and fellow wide out Golden Tate caught 10 touchdown passes. The Irish have depth at RB with talented JR Armando Allen, Robert and the big fellas up front will be the most talented bunch since 2006. There are spots to fill on the defensive side of the ball, but they do return SS Kyle McCarthy who totaled 110 tackles in 2008 and they should adapt better to John Tenuta’s attacking 3-4 defense.
The line of 14.5 is predicated mainly off of the publicity Notre Dame has received by many media outlets and the impressive showing in the Hawaii Bowl last year. The Rock is not a firm believer that the Irish are all the way back yet and sees a great opportunity with his college football picks to take more than two touchdowns with a team that could very well be a BCS buster in 09’.
