New Orleans Saints 2009 Schedule
Written May 28, 2009 by InfoPlays
The Saints underachieved last season with an 8-8 record, which was a far cry from making the playoffs. This came despite one of the best seasons in NFL History for QB Drew Brees as he torched opposing defenses. But New Orleans couldn’t stop anyone, and as a result they were usually playing from behind. Defense will clearly be the focal point in 2009, and their offense shouldn’t miss a beat. Odds makers have projected the Saints to win 8.5 game this season. Let’s see where their wins and losses will come from in 2009 to see if they can exceed expectations. New Orleans opens their pre-season schedule with a home game against the Cincinnati Bengals on August 14th. Eight days later on August 22nd they’ll be traveling to Houston to take on the Texans. The Saints will then head out to the West Coast to face the Oakland Raiders on August 29th. Their final tune-up comes at home on September 3rd against the Miami Dolphins. Week 1 – Sunday, September 13th at home against the Detroit Lions – Good way to kick off the season with a throttling of the 0-16 Lions from last season. New Orleans rolls.
Week 2 - Sunday, September 20th at the Philadelphia Eagles – The Eagles can score points and they know how to stop the best aerial attacks in this league. Philly wins at home.
Week 3 - Sunday, September 27th at the Buffalo Bills – The Bills are solid in both the running and passing games this season and their defense is good enough to slow down Brees and company. Buffalo takes this one.
Week 4 - Sunday, October 4th at home against the New York Jets – The Saints get back on the winning track at home with a Week 4 victory over Rex Ryan’s new team.
Week 6 - Sunday, October 18th at home against the New York Giants – This will be a make or break game for the Saints, and we feel they can out-duel the Giants at home. Having a bye week will help them better prepare for Eli Manning and company.
Week 7 - Sunday, October 25th at the Miami Dolphins – Miami should be a slight favorite at home in a very tight ball game and they’ll pick up the “W” here.
Week 8 – Monday, November 2nd at home against the Atlanta Falcons – Finally a division game for the Saints and they take advantage with a home victory.
Week 9 - Sunday, November 8th at home against the Carolina Panthers – New Orleans strings together back-to-back division wins by edging out Carolina in a tight game down in the Dome.
Week 10 - Sunday, November 15th at the St. Louis Rams – Make that 3 in a row for New Orleans as they win a shootout in St. Louis.
Week 11 - Sunday, November 22nd at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Tampa finally puts an end to their winning streak with a home win against the Saints.
Week 12 - Monday, November 30th at home against the New England Patriots – The Patriots are back as a Super Bowl contender with Tom Brady leading the way and they’ll one up the Saints on the Monday Night Stage.
Week 13 – Sunday December 6th at the Washington Redskins – Oh how the mighty fall. The Saints lose their third straight game in Washington.
Week 14 - Sunday, December 13th at the Atlanta Falcons – This could be a crucial game for the Saints down the stretch, and they lose a close one to Matt Ryan and company on the road for a 4th straight defeat.
Week 15 - Saturday, December 19th at home against the Dallas Cowboys – The Cowboys can no longer keep up with the Saints offensively without T.O. and New Orleans wins a shootout at home.
Week 16 – Sunday, December 27th at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – The Saints keep their playoff hopes alive with a blowout home win over the Bucs here.
Week 17 – Sunday, January 3rd at the Carolina Panthers – For a second straight season, the Saints lose to the Panthers in the final week of the season to miss the playoffs.
We have the Saints winning 8 games this season by the looks of the schedule. Of course, they could sneak another win in there along the way but as it stands, I’ll be betting the Saints to finish UNDER their projected total of 8.5 wins in 2009 due to their lackluster defense.

Got something to say?

I say 12-4,i still have enough faith in the saints to dominate hard this year with a top pro bowl QB,and a new defense.
Dont speak so soon about 8-8 people.

12-4? Yeah right. More like 17-0! They are so good they got a bonus win. But i really would hate to see the saints lose to the lions. National humiliation….
