New York Giants at Cleveland Browns Football Picks & NFL Betting Odds
Written October 10, 2008 by Jimmy Boyd

The reigning Super Bowl champs head to Cleveland to take on the Browns on ESPN’s Monday Night Football in week 6 action and Jimmy Boyd is here to break down the NFL lines on the game. The Browns are hoping to use a bye week to their advantage while the Giants are hoping that their road success continues. Odds makers have listed the Giants as 7.5-point favorites with the total set at 43.
With all the talk about the Cowboys being the team to beat in the NFC, the Giants have flown under the radar and kept right on winning. They are off to a 4-0 start and have now won eight straight games dating back to last season. The Giants have also won 10 of their last 11 road games.
While these teams don’t meet often, it is worth noting that Cleveland has not defeated New York since 1985. The Giants have won four in a row over the Browns and have not lost in Cleveland since 1973.
New York looked nothing short of the most dominant team in the NFL with a 44-6 win over Seattle last Sunday. The G-men amassed 523 yards along the way in a balanced effort. Eli Manning was an efficient 19 of 25 for 267 yards and two scores and running back Brandon Jacobs racked up 136 yards and added two more touchdowns. The Giants did all that damage without star receiver Plaxico Burress who was suspended for missing a team meeting. Luckily enough for the Browns, he’ll be back this week. Burress leads the team with 18 grabs for 259 yards.

The Giants lead the NFL in total offense, averaging 431 yards per game. They are also the most dominant running team in the league, racking up 181.3 yards per contests. Defensively, the Giants have been nearly as good, holding opponents to 12.3 points per game (2nd in the league), and 236 yards per game (3rd in the NFL).
While this game was not figured into the stats we discussed earlier, the most recent meeting between the Giants and Browns came in the preseason when New York scored 30 unanswered points in the first half. If you like New York to roll over another opponent, bet the Giants at -7.5 at BetUS. Most of the NFL betting early in the week has been on the Giants so far.
Cleveland is just 1-3 and hasn’t resembled the team that won 10 games a season ago. They are looking to build off of their first win of the season over the Bengals and to use the extra week of rest to shock the Giants.
While Cleveland started the season 0-3, their may not be cause for concern yet if they can win this football game. If you remember, the Giants started 0-2 last season before going on to win the Super Bowl.
While Cleveland is just 5-9 after bye weeks, I don’t see how this one could hurt them. It will enable linebacker Willie McGinest to return from a groin injury and wide receiver Donte Stallworth to make his season debut.
The Browns could be without tight end Kellen Winslow who was hospitalized with an undisclosed illness this week. Winslow caught 82 passes and was a Pro Bowl selection last season.
Cleveland nearly matched the number of points it had scored through the season’s first three games with its 20-12 win over the Bengals in week 4. QB Derek Anderson threw a touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards in that game and hopefully it will get him on track. Edwards set a franchise record with 16 touchdown catches last season.
The Browns have not forgotten what the Giants did to them in the preseason, embarrassing them on national T.V. and injuring five players, and they will be out for revenge here. If you think Cleveland will show up against the Giants, bet the Browns at BetUS and receive up to a 50% signup bonus.
