New York Giants Season Schedule
Written May 12, 2009 by Jack Jones
Football season is still several months away, but that hasn’t stopped the speculation on what is going to happen in 2009. The sportsbooks have recently posted their projected NFL win totals for each team in 2009 and in order to give your guesses on if a team is going to go over or under you have to look at their schedule. I’m going to break down the schedule of the New York Giants today and see where the 10.5 wins might come from. The preseason schedule gets started on Monday, August 17th when the Giants play host to the Carolina Panthers in a game that will be broadcast on ESPN. The Giants will then head to Chicago to face the Bears on Saturday, Auguest 22nd, followed by a home game against the New York Jets on Saturday, August 29th. Finally, the preseason comes to an end when the Giants head to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots on Thursday, September 3rd. If you are looking for New York Giants tickets in 2009 then take a look at what is available at StubHub!
Week 1 – Sunday, September 13th at home against the Washington Redskins – With the Giants expected to win 10 or 11 games this year, I think they will be favored to win nearly every home game so I’ll mark this as a win.
Week 2 -Sunday, September 20th at the Dallas Cowboys – The Cowboys are going to be a tough team this year and playing them on the road on Sunday Night Football should mean the Giants get their first loss of the year.
Week 3 -Sunday, September 27th at the Tampa Bay Bucs – With a first year head coach and some changes being made down in Florida, the Bucs will probably be a slight underdog against the Giants so expect a NY win.
Week 4 - Sunday, October 4th at the Kansas City Chiefs – It’s tough to win back-to-back road games in the NFL, but the Giants should take care of business here.
Week 5 -Sunday, October 11th at home against the Oakland Raiders – A home game against a team who keeps struggling year after year? Don’t expect a G-Men letdown.
Week 6 -Sunday, October 18th at the New Orleans Saints – This is going to be a tough game in which the Saints should be slight favorites, so I’ll go with New Orleans.
Week 7 -Sunday, October 25th at home against the Arizona Cardinals – Last year the Cards made the Super Bowl, but going on the road to beat the 2007 champs isn’t going to be easy. Take the Giants here to win on Sunday Night Football..
Week 8 -Sunday, November 1st at the Philadelphia Eagles – Another tough road game in the division. It’s hard to imagine any team going on the road in the NFC East and being a favorite, so take the Eagles here.
Week 9 -Sunday, November 8th at home against the San Diego Chargers – The Chargers started off slowly last year but then battled back into the playoffs. I don’t see them starting off poorly again in 2009 so take the home team to win this one.
Week 11 -Sunday, November 22nd at home against the Atlanta Falcons – Can the Falcons keep the momentum going from last year? I’m not sure but going to New York after the Giants were on a bye week is a tall order.
Week 12 -Thursday, November 26th at the Denver Broncos – This game is a toss up. The Broncos shouldn’t be very good, but playing at home on Thanksgiving in the night game could give them extra motivation. I think this is where the 1/2 win on the projected total comes into play.
Week 13 -Sunday, December 6th at home against the Dallas Cowboys – Both of these teams get a few extra days to prepare, but I’m not about to go against the Giants at home this year.
Week 14 -Sunday, December 13th at home against Philadelphia Eagles – Another home game means another W for the Giants.
Week 15 -Monday, December 21st at the Washington Redskins – The only Monday Night game for NY on this year’s schedule. This is the only situation in the NFC East where the road team might be favored over the home team, but with the game on Monday Night that should be extra motivation for the Redskins to pull out a close one.
Week 16 -Sunday, December 27th at home against the Carolina Panthers – A slight disadvantage here for the Giants as they are playing on a short week, but I’ll go with the Giants anyway.
Week 17 -Sunday, January 3rd at the Minnesota Vikings – This should be a great game between two teams in the playoffs, but the Vikings have a little too much fire power to lose at home. The real question is will Favre be in the purple uniform?
