New York Giants vs. Arizona Cardinals NFL Betting Odds & Spread

Written November 21, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Now the Cardinals have built their lead in the NFC West with wins over the Seahawks, Rams, and 49ers the last 3 weeks, but this Sunday they get a real test when the 9-1 New York Giants come to town. The Cardinals made pretty easy work of the Seahawks last week winning 26-20, but the Seahawks have won 2 games all season. The Giants on the other hand added another impressive win to their resume with a 30-10 win over the Ravens, and now have pushed their winning streak to 5 games since losing to Cleveland on Monday Night Football. If you are looking to do a little NFL betting on the game this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Giants 3 point favorites on the road over the Cardinals at Sportsbook.com

Now the Titans might have the best record at 10-0, but there are many fans and experts that would say the Giants are the best team in football. The way these guys can run the football is about as good as it gets, and on top of that they got a pretty good quarterback receiver combo in Eli Manning and Plaxico Burress. Last week against the Brandon Jacobs did most of the scoring running two of his 11 carries for touchdowns, but he wasn’t the only one doing damage, as Ahmad Bradshaw and Derrick Ward helped the Giants to combine for over 200 yards on the ground, and all 3 had runs of over 20 yards. Manning did his part throwing for 153 yards and a touchdown, but this was all about the Giants shoving it down a very good Ravens defense. Now there is no question what to expect from these guys this week, as they will look to take advantage of the Cardinals week run defense.

There were definitely a lot of people outside of New York that though the Ravens had the better of the two defenses going into last week, but that opinion might of changed after the beating these guys gave last week. The only run game the Ravens had was quarterback Joe Flacco running for his life outside the pocket, and when the QB had time to throw it wasn’t that good, as the Giants defense picked two of his 33 passes off. Now this week they face arguably one of the best quarterbacks in the game in Kurt Warner who can make any defense look lost. The key for this one is making sure the Cardinals get no running game going at all, and making Warner beat them through the air, and hope the guy makes some mistakes. Bet Giants -3 at Sportsbook.com

Now speaking of Warner and the Cardinals offense, they definitely had the passing game going last week, as Warner was 32 of 44 for 395 yards, and thats now the 4th straight game Warner has thrown for over 300 yards. He only had one touchdown in this one, but when you have that much success throwing the football you would hope your running game could pound it in from close, but last week they didn’t have so much success against the Seahawks, as they were forced to kick 4 field goals. It doesn’t get any easier this week, but if this team wants to make a statement and beat the Giants, they are going to have to put the ball in the endzone more than twice.

The Cardinals defense did a pretty solid job last week, but did let the Seahawks turn a 26-7 lead into a one possession game after giving up two touchdowns early in the 4th quarter. The defense was able to hold on, and they had some pretty good numbers at the end of the day, as they intercepted Matt Hasselbeck 3 times and added a couple sacks to go with it. This week its all about just slowing down the Giants run game and making Manning beat them through the air. The offense is going to put some points on the board, its just will the defense be able to keep the Giants from running wild and control the clock, which keeps Warner and company off the field.
