New York Jets at Miami Dolphins NFL Odds
Written October 12, 2009 by Black Widow
The 1-3 Miami Dolphins take on the 3-1 New York Jets tonight on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. This is an AFC East rivalry where both teams split last season, with the road team winning each time. This line started at New York -1 but with the public on the favorite, NFL odds now show the Jets as a 3-point favorite to beat Miami with a Total Set of 36 points.
New head coach Rex Ryan and rookie QB Matt Sanchez make their debut tonight on the biggest stage in football. They also added WR Braylon Edwards from Cleveland earlier this week, and he’s expected to be in the starting lineup. They got him in exchange for WR Chansi Stuckey and LB Jason Trusnik and two future draft picks to try and add a much-needed weapon to this offense. The Jets got off to a fast 3-0 start, but their 10-24 loss to the Saints last week was in large part to Sanchez’s inexperience. He threw 3 interceptions and lost a fumble, seeing two of those turnovers result in New Orleans’ defensive touchdowns. But their defense held strong, allowing just 10 points to the Saints’ offense. This stop unit has been excellent all season as Sanchez continues to try and find his way offensively. New York’s defense will also get back LB Calvin Pace who is coming off a 4-game suspension. This is a new start for Edwards, who just recently punched one of Lebron James’ friends at a Cleveland night club and the Browns were fed up with his off-the-field issues.

Miami brings in the league’s best running game behind an average of 183.5 yards/game. The Wildcat formation has continued to work wonders for this offense, led by Ronnie Brown’s 369 yards so far this season. In their 38-10 win over Buffalo last week, they reeled off 250 rushing yards to keep pressure on the Bills. Chad Henne made the first start of his career, completing 14-of-22 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown without throwing an interception. Brown rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns in the win. There has been a lot of smack talking going on between these teams, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. The biggest being Channing Crowder from the Dolphins, who says he hates Leon Washington stemming back from when they played each other in college in the FSU/Florida rivalry. Joey Porter usually does the trash talking, but he’s just trying to get ready after missing last game with a sore hamstring. He did not practice on Wednesday but is expected to be ready to go tonight.
