2009 New York Jets Schedule

Written May 12, 2009 by Steve Janus

new-york-jets-schedule-2009According to the posted 2009 NFL Win Totals odds, the New York Jets are projected to come away with 8 wins.  Let’s take a look at their schedule, and predict the games they should win or lose.  Keep in mind that these are simply first-impression estimates and should not be taken as true predictions against the spread.  I am basing these predictions on the win total that the Jets have been projected for.  A more in-depth team analysis for New York will be coming a little later this summer.  If you want to bet on the NFL this season, be sure you take advantage of our exclusive offer with BetUS, where new customers can get a $500 bonus on their initial $500 deposit!

The Jets are slated for four pre-season games in 2009, starting at home against the St. Louis Rams on Friday, August 14th.  From there they’ll play two games on the road starting at the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, August 24th, then at the New York Giants on Saturday, August 29th.  To wrap up the pre-season the Jets head back home on Thursday, September 3rd to face the Philadelphia Eagles.  Head over to StubHub today to find 2009 New York Jets tickets, or any tickets for your favorite NFL teams.

Week 1 - Sunday, September 13th at the Houston Texans – The Texans will be tough this year, but I think the Jets get the job done in their first regular season game of the year in Houston.

Week 2 - Sunday, September 20th at home against the New England Patriots – Bad draw for the their home opener.  Pats walk away with the win here.

Week 3 – Sunday, September 27th at home against the Tennessee Titans – Back to back games against two of the strongest teams in the league.  Titans beat the Jets on their home field.

Week 4 - Sunday, October 4th at the New Orleans Saints – The Jets struggled on the road last year, while the Saints could only win at home.  The trend continues here with the Saints handing the Jets yet another loss.

Week 5 - Monday, October 12th at the Miami Dolphins – Tough times continue for the Jets as the Dolphins knock them off on Monday Night Football.

Week 6 - Sunday, October 18 at home against the Buffalo Bills – New York should be good at home again in 2009 and beat the Bills in this meeting.

Week 7 - Sunday, October 25th at the Oakland Raiders – The Raiders are a complete mess.  Jets win.

Week 8 - Sunday, November 1st at home against the Miami Dolphins – Should be a close game and I have the Jets winning at home against Miami, splitting the season series 1-1.

Week 9 - BYE

Week 10 - Sunday, November 15th at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars – Jets stay strong at home and beat the road-weary Jags.

Week 11 - Sunday, November 22nd at the New England Patriots – This match up does not favor the Jets.  Pats win big.

Week 12 - Sunday, November 29th at home against the Carolina Panthers – Chance for an upset as a likely home dog.  Carolina is not as good on the road, but I think they beat the Jets here.

Week 13 - Thursday, December 3rd at the Buffalo Bills- I predict this will be a close game, but the Jets complete the series sweep over the Bills.

Week 14 - Sunday, December 13th at the Tampa Bay Bucs – I’m projecting a down year for the Bucs.  Jets get the road victory.

Week 15 - Sunday, December 20th at home against the Atlanta Falcons – Jets should again have a good rush defense, but their secondary has me worried.  Matt Ryan and the Falcons upset New York at home.

Week 16 - Sunday, December 27th at the Indianapolis Colts – The Jets don’t play the Colts often, but you’d have to go back to 2001 to find the last time they beat Indy.  Colts in this one.

Week 17 - Sunday, January 3rd at home against the Cincinnati Bengals – You start to wonder if the Bengals even want to win games anymore.  Jets should close out their season with a win at home.

First of all the Jets have a powerful D emphasis on the D, if they sould gel which players in Baltimore did under Ryan: top 10 D at least or top 5. Extremely powerful running game with the Jets just so happening to have the AFC’s leading rusher in Thomas Jones and a stat that a lot of people seem to forget about Leon Washington led the league in plays of over 40 yards with 10 plays, one of the best offensive lines in football this year, one of the best front seven in football will now be unleashed with the read and react style of Eric Mangini and pretty much defies the purpose of a 3-4 D that is all about getting different pass-rushing angles and a good 2nd year tight end which said by many can be one of the best pass catching tightends in the league this year. Many people seem to also forget that Jerricho Cotchery might not be able to stretch the field is still a supremely good route runner and there’s no way you can say he’s inconsistent, and i’ll bet that the Jets are in on trade discussions about the discruntled Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall and I believe that Chansi Stuckey is going to extremely come in to his own this year and there secondary is really pumped up more than it’s been in a while. I would even go to say like the combination of Marcus Coleman and Aaron Glenn who were stoled by them when the Houston Texans came into the league and were allowed to take players from other teams in the supplementle draft, now with Lito Sheppard able to go and cover Wes Welker Revis can finally have his way and go on Moss, and finally for my predictions.

Wk.1- A good game, but Jets get a mid-game lead and never relinquish it, the Texans receivers don’t make a difference because of the Jets shutdown corners. 1-0.

Wk.2- Brady has to get his feel for the game again the Jets take this one. 2-0.

Wk.3- Jets dominated the Tennesee Titans last year in the Titans own backyard and they’ll make quick work of Haynesworthless Titans. 3-0.

Wk.4- Jets broke even in away games, but 0-4 on west coast and good news for the Jets they have only one west coast game and that is the Oakland Raiders. At Saints they tear the Saints up with the rushing game and there defense plays lights out football. Jets win in overwhelming fashion for the second week in a row. 4-0 start.

Wk.5- Jets face the Dolphins on Monday Night and it’ll be close game up to midway during the second until the Dolphins run out of gas with the wildcat and it just so happens that Rex Ryan was the only man in the league to completely destroy and dismantled the wildcat. Jets take it in convincing fashion third week in a row. 5-0.

Wk.6- Jets defeat Bills and there new emerging shutdown cornerback tandem shuts out Owens and Evansat most 8 catches between them, but there total will be below 75 yds. Jets win in dominating fashion and Bills don’t even get 200 yds. 6-0

Wk.7- Raiders get destroyed and the Jets will be running on an emotional high. 7-0.

Wk.8- Jets sweep season series like they have for 2 of the last 3 seasons. 8-0, and the 72′ Dolphins ghost start to come into talk and fittingly too, against the Dolphins.

    Wk.9- BYE.

Wk.10- Jaguars get desimated against the Jets. Jets get best win of there entire season. 9-0.

Wk.11- Patriots take a close one at home and ghosts are put to sleep. 9-1

Wk.12- Jets feeling reassured and imense pressure releived Jets take a good one, but they win by at least 2 possesions. 10-1.

Wk.13- Jets still fresh off their bye get a good one and complete sweep over the Bills and 2 of the 3 teams in there division. 11-1.

Wk.14- Jets take on a very bad Bucs team that was horrible against the run down the stretch in 08′ and I believe it carrys on this year and Jets pound Bucs and get a big one. 12-1.

Wk.15- Falcons running game gets shut down, Ryan pressured all day, and Falcons weak D plays even weaker on the road and Jets get another good one. 13-1.

Wk.16- Colts weak D can’t stop run Jets run all over Colts, but the have Peyton Manning at the helm and pull out a close one. 13-2, but Jets meet them again down the road.

Wk.17- Ryan wants to play his men, but is hard-pressed not to so he plays his starters 10 minutes through the 3rd to let them get a good last feeling for the game and the backups get to clean up the job and Jets go in the playoffs with an extremely strong sense of confidence and a win over the lonely Bengals. Jets go into the playoffs and a 14-2 record and they get the BYE, and from there the sky’s the limit, but mark my words the Jets will meet and beat the Colts down the road in the playoffs and it’ll be a close one, and from there only time will tell, but the Jets will win the next game in the playoffs after the win versus over the Colts.

P.S.- My bad without the read and react system of Eric Mangini.
