New Mexico at Air Force Football Betting Odds and Spread
Written October 21, 2008 by Jason Lowry

This Thursday the 4-4 New Mexico Lobos will look to make it two straight when they take on the 5-2 Air Force Falcons in a very important game for both teams in Mountain West action. Last week New Mexico threw a 70 spot on San Diego State, while Air Force squeaked out a 1-point win over UNLV on the road. The college football odds makers are going with the Falcons, as Air Force comes in 5 point favorites over New Mexico at Sportsbook.com. After putting up 70 points last week, there is no question that any team getting ready to take on the Lobos has to have some concern at how they are going to stop an offense that is clicking like that. The Lobos torched San Diego State on the ground running 63 times for 419 yards, and still managed to throw in 146 yards through the air. There is no question that its not going to be that easy this week against Air Force, but the Falcons have had their struggles on defense this season, so it might be a little closer than people expect.
The Lobos defense has also had its struggles, and is giving up well over 30 points a game on the road. So its going to be up to the offense to keep the Lobos in it in this one, as the defense is going to be put up against a Falcons offense that is all about running the football. If the Lobos want to keep this one close its going to have to force the Falcons to beat them through the air, where they have had their struggles so far this season. We already mentioned that the Falcons are a running football team, but quarterback Tim Jefferson had himself quite a day in their last game throwing for 162 yards and 2 scores on just 7 attempts, plus added another 99 yards on the ground, where the Falcons as a team racked up 346 yards on 68 carries. Look for the Falcons to run, run, and run some more in this one, as they look to keep pace with Utah and TCU in the Mountain West.
The Falcons defense has given up some points this season, and even though they have played 4 out of their last 6 on the road, the defense has had more struggles at home than on the road, as it gave up 63 points to Utah and Navy in its two home losses. With the Lobos scoring 70 in their last game, it could wind up being prety tough for this unit to keep them under control. We are thinking a shootout is in tact, and it could come down to which offense gets going first. Bet Air Force -5 at Sportsbook.com
