Week 14 NFL Odds, Betting Lines, & Spreads

Written December 3, 2008 by Steve Janus

Thursday night the San Diego Chargers are 9 point favorites over the Oakland Raiders.  That’s one heavily-favored 4-8 team.  The Raiders are 3-9 this year, but they did beat the Jets earlier this year.  Two teams that are hard to figure out in this one.

This week in the Indianapolis Colts work for their 6th straight win overall at home against the Bengals, trying to improve their record to 9-4 after a 3-4 start to the year.  Cincinnati is 1-10-1 on the season including a string of awful performances on the road.  The Colts are 13.5 point favorites over the Bengals.

Any win would go a long way for the Chicago Bears right now as they are still trying to stay alive in the NFC North Division (and playoff) hunt.  The wheels have really fallen off for Jacksonville after an embarrassing loss to the Texans on Monday Night Football.  This week the Bears get the nod as 6.5 point favorites.

The Green Bay Packers are still very much in the conversation as a possible playoff team from the NFC North, even as they are only 5-7 at this point in the season.  This week they play the Texans in Green Bay as 6 point favorites.

The Titans sure lucked out after their first loss of the season.  They had Detroit last week, now they get Cleveland in Tennessee to beat up on.  Next week they have the Texans, another game that should be an easy win.  That’s where the luck stops, however, as the Titans finish up with the Steelers and Colts.  This week oddsmakers are expecting an easy win out of the Titans, making them 14 point favorites against the Browns.

The Ravens and Redskins both need a win to keep their Wild Card hopes alive for the playoffs.  The winner of this game will be in good position to nab that playoff spot.  The Ravens are 5 point favorites at home.

Can anyone slow the Giants down right now?  The Eagles are going to try, but they are 6.5 point favorites at New York this week.

Atlanta is the only 8-4 team in the NFL that can claim they are 3rd in their division.  They’ll make a great case for the Wild Card, and possibly for the division starting with an upset over the Saints as three point underdogs.

The Jets have to find a way to get back on track after a poor effort against Denver last week.  Maybe a trip to San Francisco to face the struggling 49ers is just what they need.  San Fran knocked off Buffalo on the road last week however, which is probably why the Jets are only 3.5 point favorites this week.

The Bills have seemingly derailed in Buffalo, but they aren’t yet eliminated from the possibility of a playoff spot.  The Dolphins, however, are one win closer than the Bills to getting a Wild Card spot.  Expect a showdown as the Bills are -1 against the Dolphins this week.

You never know what you’re getting with this Denver Broncos team.  Kansas City has looked better over the past few weeks, but better doesn’t necessarily translate into good.  Denver is favored by 9 at home.

Arizona should clinch the NFC West with a win over the Rams this week, but, of course, anything can happen in the NFL.  The Cardinals are favored to win by 14 on Sunday.

The Dallas Cowboys will find out if they are contenders or pretenders this Sunday in Pittsburgh.  The Steelers are 3 point favorites to win at home.

New England got smacked around by Pitt last week.  This week they travel all the way across the country to face the Seattle Seahawks.  The Pats are 4.5 point road faves.

Monday Night football should be a great one this week with two 9-3 teams butting heads.  Tampa Bay visits North Carolina with the Panthers as 3 point favorites right now.
