Week 16 NFL Picks & Predictions

Written December 17, 2008 by Anthony Moretti

nfl-picks-week16Thursday night Indianapolis should march to their 8th straight win this week as the visit the Jacksonville Jags.  The Colts still aren’t guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, the Jags are guaranteed to be staying home this post-season.  Colts win and cover 28-17.

Saturday the Ravens visit the Cowboys.  It’s the last game EVER for the Cowboys in Texas Stadium, plus they are fighting hard for a playoff spot.  The way they played on offense and defense last week, I like the Cowboys to win 21-13.

The Titans are 2 point underdogs at home against the visiting Steelers.  Tennessee has been great this year, but they are missing the heart of their defense, Albert Haynesworth, this week.  Steelers in a tight one 20-17.

Kansas City has looked better recently, but not good.  The Dolphins can ill-afford a loss at this point in the season.  ‘Phins win and cover in KC this week 24-14.

The Arizona Cardinals have their playoff spot locked up.  They haven’t played well in the North East and the Patriots are still fighting for the last playoff spot in the AFC.  Pats run over the warm-blooded Cardinals 35-21 and cover the 7.5 point spread.

The Browns and Bengals are two of the worst teams in the NFL.  I’ll take the home team, the Browns -3.  Final score should be something like 28-24 Cleveland.

The Redskins aren’t out of the playoff race yet, but if they were going to make their run, we would have seen it by now.  I’ll take the Eagles, who have looked great lately, and give the 5 points on the road.  Eagles 28, Redskins 13.

Final Score:  Rams 24, 49ers 21.  There’s really nothing to say about this game, other than it’s one of the worst match ups in recent memory.

Both the Vikings and the Falcons could use wins to keep their playoff hopes alive.  Minnesota needs to win-out to win the division, the Falcons have to win out and have the Cowboys or Bucs lose.  It should be close, the Vikings are 3 point favorites, but I see the Falcons continuing their great story with a 20-17 upset.

Is this the game that the Lions win?  It could be!  With New Orleans out of the playoff race, the Lions could very well avoid being labeled as the worst team in NFL history.  That’s a lot of motivation to me, especially in Detroit.  Lions shock the Saints 35-28 and cover the 7 point spread with an outright win!

Who is the best team in the NFC?  That question will be answered this weekend as the Panthers visit the Giants.  The Giants offense has totally fallen apart.  I have no confidence in them right now, so I’ll take the Panthers +3 with a predicted final:  Panthers 24, Giants 20.

The Jets make the long trip to Seattle to play the Seahawks this week.  There have been too many injuries in Seattle this year.  I think the Seahawks are still a tough team, but I think the Jets are too much for them.  Jets win, and cover the 5 points, 24-16.

Houston beat a watered-down version of the Titans last week, but they still beat them.  Houston hasn’t had much luck on the road this year, but I think they find it against the hapless Raiders this week.  Texans 28, Oakland 14.

The Broncos have to collapse to fall out of the lead in the AFC West.  I’ve heard a lot of people predicting that the Chargers will sneak up on them, but I don’t see it.  The Broncos do what they have to against the Bills this week, they win and cover the spread.  Broncos 31, Bills 14.

Speaking of San Diego, they have a big game at Tampa this week to stay alive in the playoffs.  Sorry, Charger fans, the Bucs are super tough at home and win this one easily, also covering the 3.5 point spread.  Tampa 24, Chargers 10.

Monday Night Football features the Packers against the Bears.  The Packers are out of the playoffs for certain, the Bears still have a shot.  Motivation at home on Monday Night?  I’ll take the Bears -4.  Final:  Bears 28, Packers 20.
