NFL Football Picks & Predictions for Week 14
Written December 3, 2008 by Anthony Moretti
Starting off this week early, in Thursday night NFL game I’m taking the Oakland Raiders +9.5 against San Diego. The Raiders have been awful, this is true, but the Chargers aren’t winning me over with their 4-8 record either. There’s definitely something missing in San Diego, but they can’t seem to figure out what it is. Chargers still win 17-10, but the Raiders cover the spread.
Time for the Colts to spread their wings and fly a little bit this week. They went without scoring an offensive touchdown last week against the Browns for the first time in over 5 years. Against Cincinnati in Indy as 13.5 point favorites this week, I think they try to remedy that quickly and jump all over the Bengals 35-10.
The Bears haven’t been great this season, but the Jaguars have totally fallen off of the map. The Bears secondary is somewhat of a concern, but their running game and rush defense is good enough to get them past the Jags and cover the 6.5 point spread, Chicago 20, Jacksonville 7.
Green Bay badly needs a win at home this week to keep their playoff dreams alive. They should be able to make quick work of the Texas, covering the 6 point spread 27-17.
The Titans play great defense and give whatever the opposing defense gives them. They’ll be given a lot this week against the Browns. Tennessee is a 14 point favorite and they beat Cleveland this week by a final of 28-6.
Baltimore can prove they deserve a spot at the table with the big boys in the AFC with a win over the Redskins this week. At home, the Ravens win and cover the 5 point spread. Predicted score: Ravens 17, Redskins 7.
The New York Giants machine has been seemingly unstoppable, even against the spread. I won’t go against them at home against the Eagles, even giving 6.5 points. Giants win 31-17.
Atlanta could prove a lot this week. Their defense will have a lot to handle with Drew Brees and Saints in New Orleans, but I think they are up to the task. The Falcons upset the Saints as 3 point underdogs 28-24.
The perfect way for the Jets to get back on track would be to stomp the 49ers in San Francisco. Brett Favre and company will do just that, covering the 3.5 point spread easily, 45-14.
The Dolphins beat the Bills in Miami. The Bills return the favor in Buffalo this week and win a close one, 21-17, covering the one point they are giving.
I’ll take the 9 points and the Chiefs this week in Denver as Kansas City is coming off of a nice road win in Oakland. The Chiefs still aren’t good, but they’ve been playing much, much better on offense lately. Broncos 28, Chiefs 21.
Arizona re-establishes their dominant position in the NFC West with a dominating performance over the struggling Rams. AZ is a 14 point favorite, but they cover easily with a winning score of 42-19.
This week we find out if the Cowboys are going to pull their usual flop in December as they visit the Steelers as 3 point underdogs. Pitt’s defense has just been to good to pick against them, I’ll take the Steelers to win, and cover, 20-14.
The Seahawks don’t have any quit in them, they still play every game hard. Unfortunately, they just are not that good. With the Patriots coming to town, don’t expect it to be too close, New England gets the road win 31-23 as 4.5 point favorites.
Monday Night Football will be interesting to say the least as 9-3 division rivals Tampa Bay and Carolina square off. It’s tough to go against the Panthers at home, but the Bucs have something special this season. I’ll take the three points and the Bucs to win 23-20.
