Week 15 NFL Power Rankings

Written December 11, 2008 by Jack Jones

nfl-power-rankings-bf121108The Titans rise back to the top of our NFL Power Rankings this week with their domination of the Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants’ loss against Philadelphia.  Tennessee has already guaranteed they will win the division and play in the playoffs.  Something tells me they may let some of their starters rest in Houston this week.  The Titans are 3 point favorites over the Texans.

With the best record in the NFC, the New York Giants come in at #2 in the power rankings despite looking off of their game against the Eagles.  A performance like last week at Dallas this week might start to stir up some concern, but the Giants have already locked up the division, so take any missteps with a grain of salt.

The Steelers have been extremely strong on defense this season and that’s won them a lot of games.  They’ll have to hope it holds up down the stretch, however, because their offense is keeping them from being one of the elite teams in the league right now.

Carolina looked impressive in a their win over Tampa Bay on last week’s Monday Night Football.  They’ve been unstoppable at home (7-0) and they run the ball as well as any team in the NFL.  They’ll be scary to play in the playoffs.  This week the Panthers play at home as 7.5 point favorites against the Broncos.

The Colts have alligator blood, they just keep hanging around.  Indy keeps winning, but they are coming in a bit under the radar.  If they stay hot through the rest of the regular season, they could make a real run in the playoffs.

Tampa’s defense finally looked vulnerable against the Panthers on Monday night, but don’t expect those difficulties to continue for long.  The Bucs will right the ship, but they better do it fast if they want to get past the Falcons this week.

At 9-4 the Baltimore Ravens would barely be in the playoffs if the regular season ended today.  That should be plenty of motivation to finish out their season strong.  This week’s motivation comes in the form of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who the Ravens get at home.  They’ll be looking for revenge from the three point week 4 loss that Pitt handed them the last time they played.

The Dallas Cowboys play good on offense one week, but the defense looks awful.  The next week, they play great defense, but the offense can’t move the ball.  If they can ever put the two together they’ll be a team that nobody wants to play.  Both the offense and defense will need to show up this week against the Giants for any chance at a victory.  Oddsmakers have set the line this week at the Cowboys -3 over the Giants.

New England is still a good football team.  Just because the Pats aren’t blowing teams out and fighting for an undefeated record again, doesn’t mean they don’t know how to win, especially down the stretch.

The Arizona Cardinals won the NFC West last week with an dominating win over the Rams.  The Cardinals will need to learn to win away from home if they are going to make any noise in the playoffs this year.  4 of Arizona’s 5 losses have come on the road.
