Week 3 NFL Power Rankings

Written October 1, 2009 by Rock Henderson

.) New York Giants- No reason to move them out of the top spot after last week’s performance at Tampa Bay. Jacobs and Bradshaw combined for 196 yards rushing in Week 3.

.) Baltimore Ravens- Offense has scored 30 or more points in each game and defense is usual self. Flacco is making an early case for league MVP.  The current NFL odds show the Ravens as 2 point underdogs at the New England Patriots this week.

.) Indianapolis Colts- Road wins at Arizona and Miami legitimize the Colts. Manning is spreading the ball around and defensive pass rush is best in the league.

.) New Orleans Saints- Showed they can win with defense if Brees is not firing on all cylinders in their 27-7 win at Buffalo. Huge game with Jets this Sunday.

.) New York Jets- Nice come from behind win against Tennessee. Their defense is blitzing 62% of the time. Second most in the league is Bears at 47%.

.) Minnesota Vikings- 49ers had Vikings on the ropes until another Favre Moment occurred. Rookie Percy Harvin has scored a TD in all three games.

.) Philadelphia Eagles- Vick’s first game back was uneventful. Team is holding up nicely with McNabb out and Westbrook questionable each week.

.) New England Patriots- Offense has yet to hit its stride, but the defensive side of the ball is performing nicely. Pats hope to get WR Wes Welker back this week.

.) Atlanta Falcons- Still have a nice mix of run and pass but were outclassed in New England. The running game needs to return to 2008 form.

.) Cincinnati Bengals- Shocked to actually be putting them in the Top 10. Carson Palmer was brilliant on the game winning drive against Pittsburgh.

.) Green Bay Packers- Powerful offense returned at St Louis. Offensive line has to do a better job protecting A Rod.

.) San Diego Chargers- Still not sure what to make of this team as they have not played outside of California yet. Will find out more when they make the cross country trip to the Steel City.

.) San Francisco 49ers- Not a more impressive defeat than their loss at Minnesota. RB Frank Gore only carried the ball once and they were right there at the end.

.) Denver Broncos- Schedule gets absolutely brutal after opening against three of the bottom feeders in the league. Five game stretch opens with Dallas at home.

.) Chicago Bears- Cutler has improved his ball security and the Bears have won two straight. Second year back Matt Forte getting less and less touches with Cutler behind center.

.) Pittsburgh Steelers- Losing all the close games they won in 2008. Running game has to be more productive and need FS Troy Polamalu back ASAP.

.) Dallas Cowboys- Leading the league in rushing with their mammoth offensive line and three capable backs. Defense finally made some noise in the win against Carolina

.) Arizona Cardinals- Secondary was shredded by Manning and the Colts. The Kurt Warner era might be coming to a close as his decision making is becoming suspect.

.) Houston Texans- Takes the cake for most inconsistent team in the NFL. QB Matt Schaub is playing some of his best football, but the defense has given up 30 or more the last two outings.

.) Tennessee Titans- Not ready to give up on them yet. Need to find a way to win close games and hang onto the ball.

Rest of the Bunch

.) Buffalo Bills

.) Seattle Seahawks

.) Jacksonville Jaguars

.) Miami Dolphins

.) Carolina Panthers

.) Detroit Lions

.) Washington Redskins

.) Oakland Raiders

.) Kansas City Cheifs

.) Tampa Bay Buccaneers

.) St Louis Rams

.) Cleveland Browns
